Hi

I am originally from the UK and obtained my green card through work. I am now in the process of applying for citizenship and wanted to know whether I still have to provide a copy of my divorce certificate from 1996 (the marriage was in England in 1994).

Does anyone know how do I get around that in the application? I no longer have a copy of it and have never re-married.

Thanks

Nix

If you aren't applying early (3 years as permanent resident) based on marriage to a US citizen, then nothing about your marriage would need to be proven. The ones applying at 3 years need to show they were free to marry, did marry, and remain married to the same USC. You are eligible after 5 years and don't have to include anything about your former marriage.

Thank you for your response. I am not applying through marriage but the application does specify that any previous marriages require submission of a divorce certificate.

I recently wrote to the courts in England to try and get a copy of the divorce certificate and was sent one for someone else, after waiting for one month and now have to send that back and hope they can send me a new one.
