To distract from the facts - a supposedly morally upright member from their own midst who preaches values to the great unwashed masses including the (underlying) message that gays are the downfall of the Greatest Civilisation of the Western World engages in doubtful correspondence with minors and gets outed in the process of clearing this matter up - suddenly the Reps are jumping all over the place shouting "you Liberals have it in for him because he is gay".

No. Wrong. Nobody gives a rat's fart for his sexual preferences. But one is very much concerned with the actual facts = that a supposedly morally upright... (see text above).

That is spin. At it's best. Or rather, at it's worst. That's dragging the battle onto unrelated battling fields for the simple sake of confusing and fogging up the issue. Which is = that a supposedly... ah well, you get the message.
