You've beat me on posting this article.

We've been using Golden Bell Express here in San Diego and we never had problem ever.

I personally have not used any other shipping company except LBC & they have been a reliable one. Unfortunately, they don't have branches in all the states. I have heard that there are independent agents that have a flexible pick up option for those customers who will pool together their lbc boxes upto 8 or more if they were from a neighboring state that doesn't have a branch.

My only choices are between ATLAS SHIPPERS INTERNATIONAL and LBC,...

But ATLAS has always given me great service, our package always arrives

in less than a month, and there was once an instance in which I was so excited

to get my newly bought camera, and had to ask them to drop by even on the wee hours

of the night, which they made my area their priority, they do value each costumer,...

We just sent a box with ALAS and it arrived a few days ago. They are on the list and we have used them 3 times now. After seeing this list we wont be using them anymore.

The cargo forwarders complain that the biggest hold on the boxes is PHL customs.

I know someone who had a problem with Manila Forwarder. She was heading back to the PHL and she had a couple of extra balikbayan boxes. She sent them through the company. She hoped to open the box while she was there. When she opened the boxes, they were lighter than usual and several things were missing: Canned goods, a couple of shirts, and a shoe. She just realized it because the way the stuff was folded is not her style of folding. I guess customs opened the back. The recipients usually do not think about it because the family is just excited to receive the box. I strongly suggest that you have your family member do a full inventory of what you sent them just in case.

I use so much tape on the boxes we send so if they were opened they would know. I cover top and bottom with silver duct tape then put clear tape over it. Its a bit much but dont have to worry so much then. I talked with the guy at ALAS and he did say US customs has been opening the shipping containers for inspection and holding them for over 2 weeks when they do. This happens to all shipping companies now.

Well not with ours. When they pick up my boxes, they tie-wrap it even after I've overkilled it with packaging tape and made it to Batangas with just few dents on them.

One of the problems with the smaller companies is that they either don't ship until they have a full container, or share a container with other shippers. The larger companies have "fixers" that take care of problems dockside. The smaller shippers sometimes don't have the push, and can't afford the duties on all the items in the shipment, so those items, or sometimes the whole shipment, gets put on indefinite hold until the duties are paid. Either way, it pays to go with a larger established shipper.
