Police certificates in India

Hi everyone,

I have one query regarding the police certificates. I want to know how many police certificates you need ?? I have heard you generally need TWO. But I read on consulate site you need certificates from all the addresses you have lived after you were 16. In my case I lived at same address as mentioned in passport during registartion till I was 18. Then I have to go to a nearby city to live there for education for 4 years. I registered for passport after finishing college and coming back home to my old address where I lived for 18 years. As you need to state current address in your passport, I mentioned the same old address. But now after 1 year and 10 months of issuance of my passport I changed my address to a newly constructed house which is my permanent residence now since last 9 months. And ofcourse I have changed my curent address in my passport to a new address which is my permanent address.

When I asked the local authority from passport office he said I just need to get a police certificate from a nearest police station governing my area at my current address. Now I am not sure and I wonder do I need Police certificate only from Police station which covers my current home address or I need to get Police certificate from my old address too where I lived for 6 years after turning 16( As I never mentioned my college address where I lived as a tenant in passport since I never made a passport then, so it means I lived at same place since last 22 years till I shifted to my new permanent address as the passport has that address entry in it.) or do I need to also get a police certificate from the city where I lived during college??(That city also has another passport office)

Ofcourse I will be getting a police clearance certificate from local passport office regardless of anything and I hope just an additional certificate from local police station in enough.

I know this is a very complicated question but I will be really thankful if anyone helps me :)

Thank you.

Read the embassy website or call them. We have been told to get one from the office that issued her passport and one from the distict police agency. But she has only lived in the same area all her life. I have read you need one from every place you have lived for more than 6 months since age 16. You should call or email the embassy. Good Luck!
