hint: you are still listed in your mother's hukuo book ? she can obtain a new birth certificate for you in China,

and then she can have the white books made of yer birth certificate. I suggest 5 white books for you, she can have these in her luggage , bringing them to you in the USA.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Getting these white books is much more of a pain in the butt than it was 6 years ago when Lily got hers. They make you jump through lots of hoops. We gave our last one of Lily's to the in-laws for their interview. We made copies so hopefully they will give it back to us. Since Lily is a citizen, the future need for these will hopefully be minimal.

Thanks for the hint!

Unfortunately my name was first removed from her Hukou book when I went to college more than ten years ago. Then it went to another city when I had my first job. It was part of collective Hukou book for all the young single employees at my company at that time.

I could have remained my Hukou when I decided to come to US later. However,I would have lost all my savings contributed to my retiring (sort of like social security) if I didn't have my Hukou voided.

I was determined to come to the US and didn't want to have a backup plan. Therefore, I had it voided. In retrospect, it's not the smartest thing to do and I should have just given up on the money, which might mean a lot to me back then. Anyway, it's how it is now.

I found out that my US passport number will be different when I get a new one. I will have to save my current passport forever because the mother-and-dauther white book bears my current passport number. I assume the white book will be valid even when my current passport expires.

Hope so !

It was easy to get all the white books ten years ago. They didn't even put any ID numbers in my birth certificate white book.

I'd love to know whether Lily's parents can get the original back at the interview.

I understand that there are two days for the interview( intake day and the actual interview date). How about the physical checkup ? Is it possible to schedule the physical checkup close to the interview?

I am planning to accompany my mother to GZ because her eyesight is not good. Hope we don't have to get stuck there for too long.

Now I am still waiting for the final notice :(

the physical exam is usually done adhoc - ya walk in the morning.

then it's up to you to pay for expedite/same day or no.

nope, sorry.. but do review the embassy reviews on China here, as some medical info is included (sometimes)

Thanks anyway. I will take a look.

Most likely I will have the expedite service assuming it's cheaper than a hotel.

I am also concerned about the physical checkup and interview because my mother has some eye diseases (nothing contagious). Basically she lost eyesight in one of her eyes and the other one is not that good either.

I will bring some bank statements to the interview although I didn't include any in my I-864 package.

Too many worries...

Good to know :)

How soon can they get the results?

Thank you !

They told them that everything looked good, however, the results are in a sealed envelope that is turned in at the interview.

You mean they got the sealed envelope already?

Yes, they gave it to them at the end of the physical. We're all set now. Just wait two more weeks.

Sounds great. Best luck to your in-laws!

Could you please let us know what kind of questions they'd be asked at the interview ?

I am going to call NVC and ask about my case... The waiting is torturing !
