I will be getting married in the end of October and wanted to know which route to take. My current thinking is to apply IR-1 immediately when I get back to the USA without having my wife go through a name change on her passport. I'll have her add my name onto her passport though. When she arrives to the USA, she will change her last name.

Or, should we change her maiden name on her passport before applying for the IR-1? What process do you recommend?

Can I apply for the IR-1 with her new married name as the primary and her full maiden name as other names used? I can then have her upgrade the Passport while the IR-1 is being initially processed. From reading, it takes 5 months for NOA2 whereas the passport would take a month. This way I can begin immediately, but also change the passport without delay. Any thoughts?
