Hi All

I am a newly registered member of Visa Journey and I have a question I would love answered .

Got married on the 18Th of may this year , but couldn't file immediately because of financial issues . That however has really improved but my wife's income is about $2000 short annually to meet USCIS poverty guideline . However , my Aunt and her husband have volunteered to be a co-sponsor ..She is a nurse and makes over $50000 Annually and her husband makes $20000 annually . What worries my aunt and husband is that they recently filed as co-sponsor for a family friend and we all do not know if that will affect my papers .

The family friend they filed for successfully got his Green card about 3 months ago.

My wife is a US citizen

Thanks all for your anticipated early responses ..

If they sponsored another immigrant that increases their household size. So to calculate size it is their household + you + number of other people sponsored. Your aunt is the most obvious co sponsor but that raises the red flag of your family "paying" to get you to the US. Normally it wouldn't be a problem but you are dealing with Lagos.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Hi Igwe and Lolo .

Thanks for your reply .

My aunt did not pay to get me to the US , I came here as a student on a F-1 visa , going on 3 years now and still in school . My Aunt who is my mother's cousin and I also have different last names too . She wanted me to do the research to find out if her being a co sponsor for someone under 4 months wouldn't hurt my case ..

Will It ??

How many other people in her family ? As long as she makes enough it shouldn't matter. In some cultures it is common to help sponsor each other here. Do be prepared to have some questions about her being your aunt. They may ask nothing or they may ask. There is nothing wrong with the truth. If you prepare for the worse then you don't get caught without an answer ( and give them an excuse to deny)
