He's right! Don''t cancel your interview. Go on with it and when asked for your NBI Clearance, tell the consul that you didn't have enough time to obtain the clearance because it takes 10 working days to get it. He'll give you a 221(g) form meaning you have to submit your NBI clearance later to them before they could release your Visa.

This happens to a lot of people.

Don't worry. Go to your interview, send in the NBI when you get it.

And lastly .... don't stress!

Yes, go to the interview. But just curious, why did you think that you could get an NBI in one day? For this type of NBI, it usually takes more. Ours took 21 days to get back.

i got mine just for one day

When my father in law went to his interview, we didn't realize, but his had just expired. The CO just told him to go get a new one that afternoon and bring it back the next day. He did exactly that, got it in a few hours, went back the next day to the embassy and was approved. All that quick.

Like everyone else said, go to your interview and don't stress. If you have time, go get a new clearance in Manila. If you can't get it, it's still better to go to the interview and be delayed a few days than trying to reschedule.

It's not really a 221g. It is just a form that tells you what you need to continue the visa process, and there is a statement on the form, that states if you do not complete the requirements within a certain time, that under 221g the application will be considered abandoned.

If you did receive a 221g, it would mean your visa was denied, end of story.

Huh?

Its not a 221g, just a form (really?), well what is the number of the form? With the government ALL forms have numbers.

And if you receive a 221g it would mean your visas was denied.... really? The embassy does not give a 221g to notify a person their visa is denied, the 221g is give if there are further requirements.

Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act

(g) No visa or other documentation shall be issued to an alien if (1) it appears to the consular officer, from statements in the application, or in the papers submitted therewith, that such alien is ineligible to receive a visa or such other documentation under section 212, or any other provision of law, (2) the application fails to comply with the provisions of this Act, or the regulations issued thereunder, or (3) the consular officer knows or has reason to believe that such alien is ineligible to receive a visa or such other documentation under section 212, or any other provision of law: Provided, That a visa or other documentation may be issued to an alien who is within the purview of section 212(a)(4), if such alien is otherwise entitled to receive a visa or other documentation, upon receipt of notice by the consular officer from the Attorney General of the giving of a bond or undertaking providing indemnity as in the case of aliens admitted under section 213: Provided further, That a visa may be issued to an alien defined in section 101(a)(15)(B) or ( F), if such alien is otherwise entitled to receive a visa, upon receipt of a notice by the consular officer from the Attorney General of the giving of a bond with sufficient surety in such sum and containing such conditions as the consular officer shall prescribe, to insure that at the expiration of the time for which such alien has been admitted by the Attorney General, as provided in section 214(a), or upon failure to maintain the status under which he was admitted, or to maintain any status subsequently acquired under section 248 of the Act, such alien will depart from the United States.

There is a form number. What it is escapes me, but is has been posted numerous times before. This is not the first time this discussion has been brought up. While it is often referred to as a "221(g)", that is incorrect.

It used to be called a "Consular Letter". Now they are referring to it as a "221(g) Letter". Also, now you can check status online.
