Hi everyone, this board is a great place. So much knowledge! I had a quick question. I'll try to be brief.

My wife and I are both American citizens by birth. A few years ago was the most wonderful day of our lives, when we adopted our son. We completed all the pre-adoption paperwork (I-600A, I-600, etc) and our son came home on an IR-4. He received his green card, and we finalized the adoption here in the United States, making him an American citizen thanks to the child citizenship act! After the finalization, we got him a state issued "birth certificate", his US passport proving citizenship, and his SS card...making sure that SS correctly has him listed as a citizen.

He hasn't even started school yet but I want to make sure he has everything he ever needs, so in early June 2012 we applied (N600) for his certificate of citizenship. We haven't heard anything on that yet except we received the receipt letter with the receipt number. As I soon found out, apparently many N600 status info can't be checked online.

When we mailed the N600 we included copies of birth certificates for all of us, copies of US passports for all of us, copy of our son's green card and copy of the visa he came home on, copy of our marriage certificate and drivers licenses, copy of the adoption decree, copies of our home insurance and mortgage statements showing where we live, and just about anything else I could think of. I realize they still will probably need his a-file but I thought by sending everything it might make the process easier.

Anyway, I tend to worry about even the smallest of details. So I wanted your thoughts on something. I am a "jr", as in my father had the same name, the "jr" is on my birth certificate but I don't really use it. So although "jr" appears on my birth cert, marriage license, passport, etc., it doesn't appear on the adoption decree and I didn't list the "jr" for my name on my son's N600 application simply because there wasnt a clear place for the suffix "jr" on the form and I didn't want to mess it up. Will that be a problem or will they simply look at my birthdate, birthplace, wife's name, and everything else and see that whether "jr" is on my name or not....I'm the same person.

I want to add.....that even on the pre-adoption forms like the I-600 etc. I didn't list the "jr" by my name for the same reason....there was no place on the form for it. This caused no problem at all with getting any of that approved, so do you all think all we be okay?

Thanks!

I think you will be OK, especially if they don't have place for the suffix. Don't worry, they will inform you if they will have problem with it. From my experience, if it will be necessary, the new birth certificate can be corrected; but I think your case is okay, and soon you will have the letter with approving (for my younger daughter I got such a letter with approve and request to send them Green card before they will give us Certificate. All process was about 3 month, last year).

Our case is pending since 11/2011!

We got an invitation for a special children ceremony in September that we should attend. The only problem: it is a school day and they would miss the whole day. I really hate taking them out of school if not really necessary (and honestly I do not understand why USCIS is making such a deal out of this). The kids are citizens already, they have a passport, just issue that CoC and done! Paying $ 600 for a better birth certificate is a lot of money!

I wrote a letter asking for other options. Wait and see what they answer.

Last year we applied for two daughters' citizenship, and we had to go to the ceremony with older, she was 15 (as I wrote earlier, younger got hers by mail). Three yours driving, same back, and 30 minutes ceremony - we missed all school day too, but it worth it because no more immigration business for my daughters, never :)

WMoore3, don't worry, just wait, anyway you can't change anything now, you have to wait.

Thanks, I worry about it getting lost in the mail, or in transit, or lost or forgotten in a stack or pile on someone's desk. I worry that something has been forgotten or something like that. Why would this take so long? I don't want to call because it will just make me even more nervous and I'm afraid they will say they can't locate it or have any record of it. The whole thing makes me nervous and I don't know why. I need to just relax and wait on it.
