I was wondering, does the follow up sputum test only get scheduled due to the X-ray results, or can it be required if one has had exposure (like a family member has had it) even if the x-ray is clear?

Sputum test is ordered if x-ray results show a scar or spot on the lungs, or symptoms of TB are present. Being exposed to TB will not trigger a sputum test alone.

I agree with Mimi and Gary, exposure to TB will not cause you to undergo sputum test. I, myself had been expose to TB patients but was not required to go to Sputum Test.
