Name change during CR-1 interview?

I've seen posts for women who want to change their name after marriage but not for men who just want to change their name period during the immigration process.

The situation: my husband (beneficiary) wants to legally change his name. I've read in places that this can be done at the interview. Is it possible? What papers would he need to bring along?

We are doing a CR-1 visa and are nearly at the interview stage.

Thanks.

The visa and green card will be issued in whichever name shows on his passport. So, if he changes his name legally in India, he should get a new passport with the new name and bring it to the interview. I'm not an expert, but it would make sense to also bring the court documents that show his name was changed legally, and he would probably need another set of police clearance certificates for his new identity. I would call NVC to find out for sure if anything else is needed.

I doubt it if it can be done thru CR-1 interview process. For name changing, he must have to do it thru Indian name changing system. then update his passport, etc etc. But I guess, it is possible to do it when you are at DS-230 stage. In DS-230, he can update his new name, but at that point, his name must have been changed legally thru Indian gov system. That is important.

I heard, name change is allowed at time of citizenship interview. They may ask if applicant prefer to change the name at that time.

Thanks guys. It seemed like just doing it at the interview would have been too simple!
