I'm trying to get my Police Certificate here in Queensland and the receptionist at the station was unsure which one I needed. I emailed the consulate and got a confusing reply that redirected me to the consulate website, which directs me to the QLD police website. The QLD police site makes no mention of the AFP police certificate so I'm getting worried I'll choose the wrong one! I was hoping someone from QLD that has been for their K1 interview could tell me if they went for the AFP police check or the Nation-wide police certificate from the local police station.

If anyone is interested here was my correspondence with the US consulate.

Good morning!

I am enquiring for clarification on which Police Certificate is required for packet 3 with the K1 visa. I currently reside in QLD (and have not lived in any other state) and my local police station has given me two options:

Police Certificate (Australia-wide Criminal History) with fingerprints

National Police Check with fingerprints through the Australian Federal Police

I do believe the first option is the correct one as the consulate website directs me to my local police station to get the certificate' date=' and the form states it will be sent directly to the consulate, but the officer at the station said it might be the AFP form. Any information you can give me to steer me in the right direction is appreciated![/quote']

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

All Australian police certificates must be based on a fingerprint check. Depending on which Australian state or territory in which you reside will depend on how to apply for the Australian police certificate. Please refer to http://canberra.usembassy.gov/obtain_police_cert.html for further information.

Kind regards

Hi. When I went for mine i got the nationwide police check. It is important that you also get your fingerprints done for this as well. I think it cost me over $100 if i remember rightly. It took a few weeks to receive by mail. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much!

http://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/police-checks/national-police-checks#fingerprints

Scroll down to Application Portal and click to download the form. Once you have filled it out, contact your local Police station to make an appointment to have your fingerprints done. I had mine done yesterday, I took the form in with me, was told to tick code 33 for purpose of check they did my prints and that was it.
