So what should I tell the African-American waiter that usually serves us at our local Cracker Barrel?

Tell him to apologize for spitting in your food on the way from the kitchen. I am serious.

what????

If you do more reserach on Cracker Barrel, you will be surprised to learn that you are very wrong. The discrimination was in their manuals..its not a phantom..well anyone who goes there know what type of organization they are supporting..for me, I called up everyone I know all over the country and mass emailed my friends and relatives and told them to stay away and most obliged...We have to punish these kind of events...

This kind of ####### all started with Denny's being shaken down. Now every time a black person has to wait a couple minutes to get a meal they think it's some Klan run operation and they are owed millions of dollars. Where a white person just would think the service suck and get up an leave.

Denny's had a bad racial discrimination rap in the 90's should we avoid them too?

Don't think places can change? Did you read their policies today? (HINT: I posted them from their website)

I'm sorry for you but I am going to go with the innocent until PROVEN guilty...When the court issues a ruling,, you can then discuss this, until then it is just another frivolous lawsuit.

Edit: If you are a minority and you experience what you feel is discrimination from CB, I urge you to contact them....the number is located on their website!

According to Elizabeth (and I have heard the same thing), no one should go to Carcker Barrel because in addition to discrimination, they regularly spit in patrons' food...why would anyone go to a place that will discriminate against you if you are a minority and spit in your food if you are white? Is this is the last restaurant on earth?

So what should I tell the African-American waiter that usually serves us at our local Cracker Barrel?

Tell him to apologize for spitting in your food on the way from the kitchen. I am serious.

Can you come back here and post your experience when they mistreat you? One way or another, sooner or later they will get to you...

Marc,

By the way, their cases never go to court. Read the wikipedia link I gave you. They settle all cases out of court which is another way of saying they pay off those they aggrieve, to prevent their true character becoming known...so dont wait for any court to rule on their guilt.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. I am sorry if you have experienced this personally, but don't project on me your assumptions that all minority wait staff at all Cracker Barrel restaurants spit in white peoples' plates on a continuous and consistent basis.

This is the off topic forum..my point was that tolerating these idiots when some of us are reaching out for immigrants should hit home with us whether or not we are minorities. Most Americans turn the other way saying this does not affect them. If all Americans knew how Cracker Barrel treats minorities, maybe they would have gone under long time ago-why would anyone patronize them? Am trying to avoid using the phrase 'need a permanent boycott'. I ask again, why would anyone support such an idiotic organization? Can someone answer that?

I agree wth you. When groups such as Focus on the Family will outright boycott companies for providing benefits for employees with domestic partners, then certainly we can affect businesses that seem to tolerate racism. I remember Denny's and Texaco both had similar issues. With Texaco, it was memo's from upper mgmt. that had outright racial slurs on them. Such things shouldn't be ignored by us consumers as we do have a choice as to what companies we give our patronage to.

From what remember the Denny's trouble could have been BS too. The owner of Denny's (Richardson) wanted an NFL team and he rolled over rather than fight the claims.

 Not even "could be"--those by Farakhanists (Nation of Islam members) claiming that the restaurants had not honoured their requests for pork-free meals WERE bogus:

  • there are several meals which come with NO side meats already
  • even those "package" (for example "slams") where the "as-is" meal includes bacon/ham/sausage, you can ask for it with "no meats"--in which case, they'll simply toss on more hash-browns (I've done that lots of times)

Yep, you seem to be doing a good job of producing both IMO.

This is a very serious post, kitkat.

Peeing-jay,

It would help if they did not use a racial name to name their restaurant, which hints that the restaurant is restricted to only one race, consistent with how minorities are treated when they go there. Maybe changing their name to show total inclusion would help.

Woah woah woah.. They are not using a racial name to name their restaurant. Read this:

In the days before pre-packaged food and huge supermarkets, a trip to the nearest store was more than just an errand; it was also a chance to socialize and keep up with goings-on. The country store of yesteryear was the focal point of many rural communities, and the heart of the country store was the cracker barrel. Literally a barrel containing crackers, the cracker barrel was the spot where folks would gather to chat about weather and politics, or to swap stories, jokes, and gossip.

My wife and I complained about a mexican restaurant we went to where the (mostly black) wait staff completely ignored us for 15 minutes, despite the fact that the restaurant itself wasn't busy and they had a full service staff.

We didn't make it a racial issue, as much as a laziness one. All of the wait staff (about 12-15 people, including the duty manager) were socialising and "shooting the sh i t" in the waiting area.

We got several free meal coupons and the manager, and a good number of the wait staff were not there when we we went back. The service improved however. We even complimented them on it.
