So I've been with my fiance for 4 years and engaged since the end of April. I've been looking over what paperwork we need to do in order to get married but I seem to be so confused. So far I've got the I-485, G-325 and I-129 filled out but now I'm at a stand still... We're looking to get married in Michigan and me moving there, but I don't want to lose my Canadian citizenship. We want to do everything the quickest way possible but make sure we cover ALL of our bases. I've read that this process takes anywhere from 9 months to a year and then once it's approved we have 90 days to get married. I also know that at some point throughout this we have to provide pictures and whatnot to prove our relationship, I have to go to an approved doctor in Toronto and also go to Quebec for an interview... I want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything because I don't want this to get rejected. If there is anyone who can help give me some guidance through all of this I would really appreciate it! I just want to marry the man, no reason this should be so difficult! lol... :P

Just want to ask the question... Have you compared K1 to CR1? If not look here click here Keep in mind the K3 is basically dead so don't worry about the info on K3. Just wanting to make sure you know you have another option.

If K1 is indeed what you want to do, then click the K1 link on my signature and follow through to the checklist. Just use it as a guide to help you keep track.

You will not lose your Canadian Citizenship.

Good luck...!!!

First of all check out the guides - see the blue bar at the top of the page.

I would recommend starting here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/compare

Once you figure out which Visa would be best for your situation - CR1 or K1 and read up on that particular Visa.

Personally I decided to get married and then have my spouse petition me for a CR1 as I wanted to work right away when I moved to the US as well as it was significantly cheaper.

Good luck in your journey.

Also, as stated above you don't lose your Canadian citizen when you get US citizenship (which is pretty far down the road for you) both countries allow dual citizenship.

Ok so I'm going to talk to my fiance about these choices and see what he thinks. Do anyone know where I send this paperwork, we'll be living in MI but any thing I've found says IL or Dallas.

You send it to the address found in the instructions of the 129-F.

As mentioned, if you click on the link on my signature for the K1, you will see the forms. Click on the forms to download, also download the instructions. This is paramount for successgood.gif

Hey! I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have my interview on Monday in Montreal and I just want to be prepared (like everyone else I'm sure)! Just a couple of questions:

1/ Can my fiance come with me to the interview & if so, what does he need to bring?

2/ What does "Copies of documents proving petitioner’s U.S. domicile" really mean?

3/ I've paid a $240 fee online but I keep reading that I will have to pay a fee at the interview, is this true & if so how much is it?

4/ Do I need to bring all of my previous paperwork (like our petition) with me to the interview?

The interview is for a K-1 fiance visa. Also, if there's anything else you think I should know to help things go smoothly I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks so so so much!
