Petitioner Address to Change or Not?

Hi All,

This is my 1st time to ask for help/opinions or if there was some who experience the same situation like mine.. Im alittle bit confuse about my petitioners address.. Here is the story..

When we filed K1 visa last feb 2012 he was stationed in Asia bec he is in the military (Army) ..He suppose to be there till 2013 i think but suddenly he need to come back to USA and so his station got change..He came back to USA May 2012 He is now station in Kansas, but his home and his mailing address is just 3hrs away fr his station w.c is in kansas too.. w/c is his parents house..

Then of course since he is in the military he can have free housing off base.. so he got one June 2012 i think and he move to off base housing ..

My question is.. since we dont have yet our Noa2 bec of our simple RFE ..Does he need to change his mailing address or not? even though his mailing addrese ? as far as i know his off base address is not a mailing address it is a PO BOX.. and of course he wanted to put his parents address as his mailing address because thats were he live ever since.. Im confuse if he need to change it now since he is now in USA..

And if yes how long will it take for uscis to change it and if it wont affect the application and interview someday..

I am pretty confident that he can contact USCIS with a change of address. If he talks to them Im sure he will explain he is in the military and had orders back to the USA. . If they question it, he can always provide a copy of his Military Orders Authorizing a permanant Change of Station. This should more than help with any worries about why he moved.

When he filed for K1 which address did he use? And which address do they have ON FILE now?

Have you received ANY NOAs? I don't know how you can change address unless you have the case number which is listed on the NOA.

I don't want to scare you but IT IS VERY important that USCIS has your correct (and reliable) address on file AT ALL TIMES. The documents they send are very important and if they get "lost" it can potentially prolong your case and create a whole bunch of other problems for you.

Also understand that their computer system is not perfect and too many change of addresses may lead to confusion.

We dealt with a complicated move RIGHT in the middle of our application by changing our address to a PO Box to prevent confusion and misplaced mail in case we have to move again. We had no problem receiving all NOAs, my employment card, etc a the PO Box.

In a nut shell, if your petitioner moves a lot I would suggest you choose a mailing address that you can keep for a while and stick with it. The last thing you need is USCIS's mail lost/misplaced.

Oh and it would really help if you write in your timeline in your signature so we can better understand your process (if you don't know how, go to Settings then Profile and Change Signature)
