Hello everyone i hope some one can help me in this forum. i got married March 30th of this year, and i turned in my marriage certificate this month to PSD along with the same translation i sent to USCIS with the I-130 package; but i received a call today from PSD saying that the translation from my marriage certificate was kicked back because it was not Notarized/certified and that if i dont turn in this paperwork within a week my BAH(BAR) would be stoped, which i dont want. The lady i spoke to told me to go to the nearest USCIS Office that serves the military here in Virginia, but i'm not sure that they would do such thing as notarizing a translation of a marriage certificate. i'm confused i don't know if you can just do a walk in or if the info pass would be an option. so please can someone with a similar situation please let me know what to do or anyone that knows please give me an advice. im currently serving in the Navy in Virginia, this base doesnt have a notary personel i can go to and the legal officer ain't much help.

It always amazes me how people throw around the word notorized without actually knowing what it means. A notorized document proves that the person siging the form is actually the person signing the form as the notorary checks the ID. It does not mean the document is a true and exact copy or anything else. It sounds like they want a certified copy of the marriage certificate AND a certified translation. That is where the translator adds a statement that they know both languages and that he/she affirms that this translation is true and accurate. You may want to ask them if that is what they really want and how they want the certification worded. Usually this sworn statement is what gets notorized. I know my wife's birth certificate is translated and there is an official stamp with the translator's statement. That might be what they are looking for.

I would ask what they are looking for beforew spending too much time chasing your tail--it could be they just want a certififed copy of your marriage certificate or they want that and a sworn statement from the translator signed and notorized.

Good luck,

Dave

Thank you sir for your answer my concern is that the lady i spoke to from PSD told me to go to the local USCIS office but i do not see anywhere around their website that they do this kind of work they need from me. I wanted an advice maybe from someone who have been through the same and where did they get it done. It seems like you had to do something with ur wifes birthcertificate but this one is for my command not for uscis. I do not understand why would they send me to a uscis instead of me going to a public notary and getting it done. On monday i will be going in person to speak with the lady since i was contacted by phone and my senior chief was right in front of me and i had to get back to work. But thanks for the answer, have a good weekend.
