Mark,

The financial requirements for sponsoring an immigrant are not all that much. No, 'they' will not make an exception - the government, speaking on behalf of your fellow citizens, do not want people bringing non-citizens into the country who the rest of us will have to support to keep them alive.

Your SS income will go much further in Thailand than it does in the USA, and many Americans married to Thais would love to retire to Thailand. Perhaps you can consider that option.

I am on SSI and do not make enough money to get my wife a GREEN CARD does anyone know how to get around this?

Thanks Mark

If he is receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments those stop after you have been outside the U.S. for 30 days.

No exceptions, you need to find someone that you trust and trusts you to be your cosponsor to vouch financially for your immigrant.

mdyoung,

Thanks for the correction. I assumed (usually a bad thing to do) that Marky was using 'SSI' to mean social security income, as in he is retired and living off his SS benefit.
