Sorry guys, but I'm starting to get really confused. I'm currently in the middle of getting my CR1 visa. We send the required documents to the chicago lockbox with a moneyorder, which was $440,-

In an other topic on VJ I read that when I'm going to send the I-864 and DS-230 I have to pay an other bill? And later for the AOS another one?!

Can somebody tell me why that is? or if I misinformed myself? I'm getting close to getting my casenumber assigned and getting more confused and stressed out by the minute.

Sorry I'm a newbie...

BTW, me and my wife currently live together (for the past 4 years in Europe) and just got married back in April.

There will be more fees.

I-130 petition fee. I-864 Affidavit of Support fee. DS-230 Visa Application fee. Medical exam fee.

You do not do an I-485 Adjustment of Status. You are petitioning for a spouse abroad which results in an immigration visa that does not require her to do an AOS. (Don't be confused - AOS - has two unrelated meanings. Affidavit of Support (AOS) and Adjustment of Status (AOS), so read for context.)

Since you just got married, you wife will get a conditional green card. There will be an expiration date on it. The expiration date will be two years after she enters the US. She will need to pay another fee and file to Remove the Condition (ROC) on her green card.

At this point, she is essentially done if she chooses. After 3 years of living in the US with a green card, she can apply for US citizenship based on her marriage to a US citizen. That's more fees.

Yeah, it seems that it never ends. But at some point it will, and it will be worth it.

If you sent a money order in the amount of $440.00 that is in correct Petition for I-130 is $420.00 not $440.00 (This may cause you RFE and have to mail out the correct amount)

I-864 is AOS which the fee is $88.00

DS-230 is the IV fee (immigration visa) $230.00

Then you have your medical exam expensive which vary in each country.

Then you have the delivery fee for the visa, and other miscellaneous fees which are is your flight, hotel stay etc...

But I do see you mention you are about to get your case number.... so the other fee goes as follow.....

I-864 is AOS which the fee is $88.00

DS-230 is the IV fee (immigration visa) $230.00

As explain above since you have been married for less then 2 years you will later on have to file to ROC you wife will get a conditional green card. You will find an expiration date on it, From that expiration date will be two years after she enters the US. to pay another fee and file to Remove the Condition on her green card.

Good Luck on your Journey!

Wow, thank you everyone for your quick replies! As I said, I'm fairly new in all of this visa process. I was not aware of the 2 different meanings of AOS, so thanks for that.

I just checked and we did actually paid $420,-

Our I-130 was actually approved on june 4th, just 8 days after CSC received it!

I thought the entire process would cost me $420, + medical fees, but I guess that was to optimistic

Lets see if I can find an old savingsjar which can deliver me some $318,-

ow and just to give you guys an idea. My wife is actually a US citizen and I'm Dutch :D

Edit; thank you for letting me know I will receive and conditional Greencard. I was aware of it, but appreciate that all of you are helping me in the right direction!
