Hi I am an American citizen and my fiance and her daughter are Colombian, I was wondering what is the process for the K1 visa and K2 visa that i need to do to get them here in the US with me, and what are the fees we are looking at. I am new to all of this and really cant find much info, and is it better then I go through a lawyer or can this all be done on my own. I have no idea where to even start, any help would be great.

Thanks

Hi 'maf1543', you can visit this link for further info and study it www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide and also for the picture of the whole process www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

For filing the I-129F ( k1 petition/application) fee is $340

For the visa application ( to be paid at your fiancee's consulate) fee is $240

If you examine all of the links above you will realize how simple this is and can be done by you with the help of your fiancee you can do it, there is no need for you to hire a lawyer, in this site visa journey people is going to help you ( just ask questions).

I hope this helps. Good luck in preparing your docs! Good luck to all of us here!

Do you know what papers my fiance will need to bring with her to Bogota, and what fees that she will be needing to pay when she goes there, I want to make sure we are prepared for everything.

thanks

Many of us on this forum have "Been there - Done that".

The best suggestion is to read the posts found here in, there are years of wisdom and experience contained here, get informed, read the guidelines and templates, then read more and read again. Ask specific questions so you get good solid answers and get involved in the posts, read them periodically and before you know it you will get your mind around the important items and issues.

The outcome will be equal to the effort and diligence you put into this Journey. Once you start and get a few months into this journey you will understand why it is called VisaJourney.

As many will attest you and your SO will need patience, more patience, and then a bit more to get over the goal line.

Good luck!

The first step is you preparing the docs for K1 petition(you can click the link i paste here about k1 guide there is a step by step guide what to do and what forms to prepare) after you accomplish you will submit the patition at USCIS pay $340 payment for the petition/application. Then they will send you NOA1 that they already receive your petition and the journey of waiting begins.. Actually i dont have an idea what forms needed for Bogota Consulate coz every country differs but uhm maybe you can search here for a regional discussion under Bogota, Colombia.

As for the fees petition/application fee $340 paid to USCIS, during visa application at her consulate $240, there are also fees for medical it depends on each consulate what fees they apply but one thing for sure k1 & k2 visa pays separate fees for medical.

Btw dont forget to put the name of your fiancee's daughter in your I-129F form. :)

Yes you can do everything on your own, without the need for a lawyer. Also I wouldn't worry quite yet about what your fiancee will need for her interview, just focus on the I-129f petition for now. I know that can be nerve wracking in and of itself just making sure you have that petition just right. After you send the petition, then you can start thinking about the documents she will need for her interview. From what I understand it takes about 5 to 6 months to get approved so there is plenty of time to think of the things you need after you send the initial petition. Welcome to the long journey ahead of us!
