Hello, I'm new here and i have a few questions. I have lived in the US since i was 12 yrs old and i'm currently 20. In the US, my stepfather is a citizen and my mother is a resident , I studied middle school and high school, I have bank accounts, driver license and registered to the selective service. In February, i decided to study abroad, so i traveled to another country and I'm planning to return to the US in august, so i don't lose my GC because i read that if you travel outside the US for more than six months, i might lose my gc, but in other places i read that it is for less than one year. So i don't know if it is six or less than one year because if it is less than one year, i am planning to cancel my flight in august and travel in december, so i can stay in the US for at least 3 months and travel back. But if it is six months, then my flight is in august and stay in the US for 1 week and travel back, so i can continue my studies abroad. Please help me, i don't want to lose my gc.

6 months - at the 6 month absent mark the CBP can deem that you have spent too much time outside the USA and remove your green card from your possession.

Only 1 year if you applied for a re-entry permit before leaving the USA.

Do not stay outside the USA longer than 6 months unless you have a re-entry permit.
