Hello you all!

I was just wondering qual long do you need to get all the papers done for the interview after you receive NOA2? Its because probably I will be on vacation visiting my fiance for 3 months and dont know when to buy the return ticket, btw, my timeline is for 24 sept, and I will be out of my country from august - end of october.

Thanks!

it depends on how fast/soon you'll get your case # from NVC after noa2 and it depends on when are you or they going to set your interview date after getting case # from NVC.

ok, thank you, but lets say I receive it 1 week later, so how long would it take? I saw a few timelines and the average time is 1 month

cheers!

for example you'll get your noa2 on september, sometime it takes forever before getting case # lets says 2 to 3 weeks to a month before getting the case #, then it is up to you if when are you going to set the interview appointment :) I just don't know in your country if you are the one who's going to set the interview appointment :)

oh ok :) because here in the Philippines if you are on k1 category it is the applicant who's going to set the appointment, But on cr1/ir1 category it is the NVC or USEM sets the appointment.

It does vary, but 8 weeks is probably a good average. Keep in mind that you have a ton of documents to get together. Mari and I spent over 3 weeks scrambling for everything for the interview. Click on my last link to see all that you will need, if you have not already looked at it. You do not want to be scrambling at the last minute trying to get things together to make the interview. Brazil is notorious for doing things on their own timeframe. We had to make 3 trips to the police department to get one of the required background checks. We were frustrated a couple of times. Of course this was in Sao Paulo, SP so it is such a large city. I guess my main point is that you should not expect to be gone for 3 months. If you are within your timeframe and think you should be getting NOA2 soon, be careful. If your interview gets scheduled while you are gone, make sure you contact the embassy as soon as possible if you can't make the interview. Also, I suggest you go ahead and get several notarized copies of your birth certificate to bring with you for safekeeping. If possible, get a certified translation as you will need this for AOS. We paid about $75 here in the states and Mari said it was much cheaper in Brazil.

Boa Sorte,

I just read you are thinking about end of september. You probably will be ok. You must be careful if you are planning a trip to the US on tourist visa while you have a K1 pending. You will have to show strong evidence that you plan to return. They consider you as a person with the "intent to immigrate" because you have a application filed on your behalf by an USC. I definitely am not saying it can't be done, I am just given you information I have read and was given when we were considering the same thing.

The truth is, they can deny your entry. You should seek advice from a Diamond or Platinum member regarding this issue. JimVaPhuong, pshbark etc...... are guys you could possibly message and they will give you the best answer. There are others that are good also, but make sure you get solid good advice, not someone's opinion.

Thank you sooo much for all the precisous info, I did a quick check and looks like most of the papers you need to fill and print on internet right? I can do it while im travelling, and the police paper I also can get it on-line, so i was thinking to come back like 1 month before interview, what you say? I am currently unemployed so I can do all the stuff now, im going to take all the shots too, lol, and there is a post saying that you can visit your fiance on K1, RIGHT?

Thanks again

Regarding your question about visiting, this is tricky. First, the K1 visa is a ONE time entry Visa that once approved you can enter the US and you have to get married within 90 days of entry. If you have a tourist visa and want to visit the states while you are waiting for the K1 process to be completed, there IS the chance that you can be denied entry by the Customs Border Patrol (CBP) officer when you are going through customs. I see you started a new thread on this and I answered it there as well. Please feel free to message us and we will try our best to answer any further questions you have. We can also Skype and Marina can go over this in Portuguese if you prefer. Just let us know, we are glad to help and share what we have learned through this process.
