Hoping someone may be able to shed light on this...

My husband went to his police station last Monday, and submitted the form to receive a police clearance (no prior criminal history, so didn't need a Certified Criminal Records Check from RCMP). Staff at police station was unable to give him an estimate as to when to expect the clearance documentation.

Any ideas? It's holding up our paperwork!

In Edmonton for my hubby's they said up to 4 weeks on the phone. When we went in they gave us a date of 2 weeks later to go pick it up. (Took about 2 months to get the certified fingerprint one) but the one from the local police office went pretty quick (and my husband did have a conviction) so I don't think the wait time is too bad.

If you guys need one faster than what he's been told, then he could always go to the Commisionaires and get one done. It'll mean more money put out though.

4 weeks?!

So my question is if they can take that long to get, how early can you order one? Once I get my NOA2 is that a good time to get a police certificate or should I get one even earlier just in case? How long can they be 'good' for? What if I have my police certificate thing and it's 3-4 months old by the interview-is that too old?

Good for 1 year for Montreal

Police certificates from each country in which the applicant has resided for one year or longer. The

certificate(s) must be issued within one year of the date of the visa appointment. NOTE: An applicant

must present a police certificate from his/her country of current residence and country of nationality, if

residence in such country exceeds 6 months

I am thinking about getting mine a few weeks before my expected NOA2 date.. that way if it comes a bit earlier I will have it, if not it should still be valid.

If you've lived in the US previously you don't have to get one from there correct?

Get her to check and make sure that it says CPIC or national database was checked. If it does you are golden.

Ugh, I was afraid of that.

My hubby waited until the last possible moment to file for his police clearance, and now we're cleared to pay for packages 3 and 4...but his package isn't ready, it's missing that dratted clearance!

I did let him know about the process server method of quicker service - up to him if he does it or not.

I'm in Belleville, Ontario, and was told 2-3 days. I did check that they are scanning the RCMP Repository, so I think I've got the right one.

Belleville is a pretty small town, so the police department probably has less on their plate than some of the bigger cities.

That's correct. USCIS can and will find anything on you if there is anything to find!

Op- where in Canada is your fiance? In Niagara, it took less than a week.
