I am applying for a new (German) passport in my married name, and on the forms I need to put the "number of permanent residence card"?

Now, is that the MSC.... number on the GreenCard? Other than my A# I can't find anything on there....

I'd appreciate any advice!

Thanks,

Carla

Yes, that is the MSC Number - which is the same as your AOS NOA. I have printed out all the documents for a new passport too but I am too lazy to get everything going...hate the paperwork. Did you have to get an apostill on your marriage licence as well? I think I have to get one but was thinking about sending it in without one since I have heard that some get a new passport even without the apostill. I don't know. Too lazy, me sloth.

Eveline, congrats on the pregnancy first!

As far as I know you only need the apostille if you want a "Familienbuch" issued in Germany, which I couldn't care less about. For the passport, you need a notarized copy of the marriage certificate. I just called the county clerk and got an "official" copy from them - looks like the original.

Hope that will be enough! You never know with the Germans...

Did you sign a name declaration at your wedding or ever since? You'll need that to have the new name in the passport.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you.

No, we didn't sign any name declaration but we will go with the american law and decide that my husbands last name will be my last name as well as baby's last name. If we decide for German law, I guess the difference is only that I can do all the fancy two last name variations, right?

Yes, if you go by German law you can put your maiden name in front or behind your new name, but only with a hyphen!

We chose american law also, and just have one old-fashioned joint family name!
