Establishing credit

I applied for Capital One's newcomers card and got approved. I did that maybe about 4 months after POE. I got approved online with a $500 credit line and of course a high APR. Eventually they raised the limit to $750 and then to $2,250. The APR is still high and they have now started to send me balance transfer offers in the mail, which can be annoying since I have no interest in them. I've asked them twice to lower my APR and they said no, so I took an offer from Amex with a lower APR and received a credit card from them with a credit line of $5,500. So I would say give Capital One a try to get started, and as he builds his credit he'll get better offers later on.
