My fiance just got the instruction letter, and to our surprise, it has changed as of 23rd of April. So, I figured I should ask to see if someone already started getting the packet 3 ready according to the new guideline to confirm what we are trying to do is actually correct. I will list the items and methods for submission, so please let me know if you did something differently *after* April 23rd.

  • DS230 I & II, DS-156, DS-156K, and DS-157 (for ALL applicants over 16; including females and males over 46) - originals + copies
  • Certificates (birth/divorce/police) and military records - originals + copies
  • I-134 and the supporting evidence (tax transcripts, pay stubs, letter from the employer, etc.) - originals
  • Evidence of relationship - originals (Could we get away with the copies?? He has my old passport...)
  • Passport biographic page - a copy
  • Prepaid DHL label
  • Prepaid visa fee - copy of the receipt?
  • Two US passport sized color photos
  • Signed check list

I think that just covers all the pertinent documents for us, but does this look right? I told him to send everything all at the same time.

We were gearing up according to the old instruction, and now the new one threw us off. I just wanted to see if someone else is going through the same thing for the peace of mind.

I hope this can also serve as heads up for people who already prepared everything according to the old instruction just like us....

FYI, checklist from http://germany.usemb.../visa/iv/step5/ is still the old version, but the checklist from http://germany.usemb.../visa/iv/step4/ is new. This is only true for the English pages; German pages are both updated already. I'm attaching the new checklist in case someone is interested....

Thanks in advance.

Never mind. The problem solved. The FRA USEM answered. Apparently, only the forms and a copy of passport biographic page need to be sent in. The rest needs to be brought in at the time of the interview. I am not sure why the update of the instruction, but hey, whatever. False alarm; sorry.

do we still need to send in form ds-156 in duplicate, since the new instructions don't say anything about it having to be in duplicate. if so, can the copy just be a COPY of everything, or does it have to be the ORIGINAL passport-style picture? and do i have to send in 2 passport-style pictures IN ADDITION to that? i thought i had everything ready for pack 3 and now found out about this ds-156 having to be in duplicate.. aaaah.... :bonk:
