This happened to me...kind of. When I went and applied for my SSN, the guy got mad at me stating I was applying for the wrong name. I was like, what? He told me I should not put a middle name if I don't have one. I do have a middle name, but for some reason he thought it was part of my first (I guess because on my passport it says given names, and has both names? But I thought that was normal?). Anyway, he told me when I came back to change my name to my married name (since he refused to do it for me then, stating I needed my green card) to apply as Firstname Middle name under the first name field.

Well, when I went to change it, I was told it didn't match my green card in the system. Something to do with my middle name! They ended up sending a copy of my passport, green card and original SSN to Homeland Security to get it fixed. The poor woman who was trying to help me change my name was trying my name every way she could. She had no idea what happened and she was super nice and at least tried her best (I was so upset with the first guy though, he was also very rude to me the whole time).

I am surprised they didn't send all of your info to DHS to get fixed. Maybe go back there and ask them to do that? They told me it could take 4-6 weeks to get this resolved, and 2 weeks later I had my new card int he mail.

They did the same to me. I didn't find out until a background check done by my new employer was rejected. I phoned the helpline and they told me to go to my local office to get it changed. I did that and received my new card in about two weeks. Funnily enough, there was a space between my names on the actual card but neither the lady on the helpline, nor the man in the local office could explain why it was two names on the card and one on their system.

Just had a phone call from my local ssa office, she said that she had mailed off the form for verification, I'm assuming she means the g-845, she told me the problem was the SSA was recieveing a name mismatch on their SNAP system, while i was at the ssa on Monday , she showed me the SAVE system response, which had my name , date of birth, Alien registration number. Had "work authorised" on it and next to authorisation validation period it had indefinite , it had given name: and this is where it had my first, and two middle names in the same field, middle name field was blank, and last name field was correct.

She did process and application for me , but the name was all screwed up omit, because she had to enter my given name into th e SNAP system as it was written on the save system response, it wouldn't let her enter it fully, let's say my name is Allen Rodger Arnold jones, ( it isn't ) my ssn application says ALlen Rodger Arn jones , howlong will this verification take? Uscis website says 10-20 days, hoping its quicker

On the bright side I was able to get my drivers licence yesterday (tuesday) using a social security affidavit, it's only valid for a. Year as that's what the temporary I-551 stamp is valid for , the y also used the save system, and my licence reads the correct name...

I did call the uscis on Monday after the ssa and spoke to a tier 2 officer who has one hell of an attitude telling me I was wrong for going to the ssa to get a ssn before my green card had come she eventually told me she would send a message to the save system department ( heard her type it as I was on the phone) requesting a name change, she told me it will take 2 weeks to fix ..am I able to call the save system to verify the information?

Have you called the helpline? 800-772-1213

http://www.ssa.gov/pgm/services.htm

They were helpful in my case. I still had to go to the local office to get the change done and had a new card in under two weeks.

I only got year on my DL too. I was a bit annoyed actually as they 'diddled' me out of three weeks because they insisted on dating it from the date the visa was issued rather than the date of my entry stamp. I gave up trying to explain in the end.
