Interview questions...can I do a CRBA at the same time?

We have our interview coming up for my husbands IR1 visa on May 9th in Montreal. I have a couple of questions.

1. I've seen suggestions to arrive by 7am, our letter says that our appointment is for 9am. Is the reason people suggest getting there so early that there are multiple people given this same generic time and you're better off just to arrive early because of that?

2.We don't live near a consulate but have been wanting to apply for our 9 month old's CRBA, if there is an appointment available for that same day at 9:30am can we do that or is it just too crazy to try? Do we need to have her CRBA in order for her to move to the US with us when we do eventually have my husbands visa and make our move or would her birth certificate be enough? The dept of state website says that you can either get a CRBA or just apply for the passport within the US but I don't want to be refused at the border because of the baby!!

Thanks for the help!

Yup, it's first come, first served.

If you have original long form marriage and birth certificates, yes you can apply for CRBA. I just did it after my interview (since they gave me my marriage cert back) and temp refusal. I and wife went straight to Toronto consulate and got CRBA done for our child. Thats also a supporting doc for proving domicile, as it shows your intent to move to US.

Yes, you need the CBRA to get the baby a US passport. If you POE by land, her birth certificate will do, but the CBRA will show she is a US citizen. If you are flying for POE you have to get a passport. No ifs, ands or buts about it.
