Hello!! I’m new in VJ, my conditional GC expired in Oct 29th 2011, I did the papers myself, I got the letter for 1 year extension and I had the appointment for the fingerprints, at the beginning of march of this year 2012, I’d receive a letter that said than I have to sent more proofs that we are together… we got married in may 20th 2008, almost 4 years we were living in Miami for almost 3 years, in January 20th 2011, we moved together to Portugal to support my husband’s grandfather, he was there alone and needed help with his business, and with everything because he suffers Alzheimer’s, in conclusion we were there for about 7 months, we spent all our savings and we are back thanks to ours families that had help us buying the tickets and giving us a place to live, I came first because of my GC was about to expire, my husband had to stay to help his grandfather to close the business and take care of him. My husband was suppose to come and be with me in CA, but his mom that is in PR convince to go there and she will help him to get a job at the hotel she works at, and effectively she help him. He is been working for about 4 months, and me I haven’t find an stable job but I been baby-sitting and cleaning houses, so we are been separated for about 6 months, but we are going to be able to get a place for both of us soon. So we used to have join account but after been 7 months in Portugal it was close, we don’t have a lease together because we are living with family, the only proof I can send is a lot of pictures we have together, plane tickets of our vacations and that’s it, I was wonder if ok add a letter explaining what had happen we us or add an affidavit of the friends we have in common. The due day is may 25 I don’t have much time and I don’t know what’s the best thing to do, what will happen to my status, so can anyone please help a depressed and desperate young woman.. Thank you for any advise that you may be able to provide to me.

Just be honest and explain everything in your cover letter, include all the evidences you have. Bottom line is you have nothing to hide.

As for getting close to expire, make an InfoPass appointment and bring your passport, they will stamp a one-year extension I-551 on your passport and you will be valid.
