Police record check in Montreal

I did find a company who claimed to be accredited from CPIC to do police record check. They can do it electronically wich takes 10 business days and is cheaper than the usual paper way who takes up to 10 weeks. I was wondering if in fact I can trust that company (recordcheck.ca) and also wich form the US consulate will ask for ? Is the electronic one is good enough for them ? How long before the interview the police record check must be done, is there a time frame to follow ? I just dont want to waste my money and my time. Thanks for your help fellow canadians !

Never heard of the company. I'd personally refrain from using their services. The visa requirements does state it needs to be a police certificate done within a year of your visa interview. I am uncertain an electronic copy would be enough. A real police certificate is signed by a ranking officer in the police department. I had mine done in Quebec City and upon request, they provide a bilingual one. Overall I don't think that's a good place to save a couple dollars.

Their site said they can get results in as little as 48 hours.

I went to the commissionaires in Montreal this morning. The RCMP no longer does the PCC in Quebec and their website directed me to them. Call and make an appointment, it does not say so on the website but when I arrived, they asked if I had made an appointment and because I hadn't I would have to wait for an indeterminate amount of time. I complained that this info should be on the website (or if it is it shouldn't be hidden) and, in the end I didn't have to wait that long. Also make sure you have your previous addresses for the past five years (again, didn't see that on the website)

It was $55, should be ready for pick up in 48 hrs. short walk from Laurier metro. I believe Saylin used a different company near Jean-Talon metro and was pleased.

Just realized this info is pretty useless if you don't live in Montreal, but some of us do, so there you go.

Edit - yeah you did say Montreal, I had to get up really early this morning, their hours are 8-4 (and, yeah I was late for work)

I don't know about Quebec, but in Ontario, I went with my wife to the regional police headquarters and they completed the CPIC check while we waited. It cost $45 and $5 for each additional copy. I didn't know that it could take up to 10 weeks!

VJers have successfully used checks from the commissionaires before- after all, if the RCMP re directs you to that website it can't just be anyone dong the checks. They are legit.

Only Quebec and Ontario maintain their own municipal and provincial policing- the rest of the provinces contract most of their policing with the RCMP so in certain provinces it can take awhile to get a police check.

I got a call this morning at work, my PCC is ready for pick up and it only took 24 hrs.
