Establishing credit score in US for Canadians

Do you live close to the border? Because, for example, Buffalo, NY stores will allow Canadians to open credit card accounts without a problem. As CentaursLady says... once you get your SSN you can switch it over. However, you must do this while you still live and work in Canada because, once you move to the US, you don't exist.

I have heard good things about (Canadian) American Express allowing you to bring your credit with you and switch you over to an American account. TD and TD/CanadaTrust are also moving in that direction. It's taking some time, though. The American banking system is pretty far behind the times with regard to global banking. And banking in general, really.

A US car dealership contacted their Canadian counterpart to request my credit report so they can do it if they want to. Great to hear that a mortgage company did the same. Congratulations on the new house Spoom and ScooterMac!
