Messed up sending AOS package

Hi,

I sent my AOS package off yesterday and messed something up. I'm not familiar with various USPS products/mailing types so I asked the lady at the post office counter how much it would cost to send the package the next day to the address I showed her (the USPS Chicago PO Box), and could I get a notification when it had been delivered?

She pointed to the blue "Express" envelope. I put my package in, filled out the addresses, and sent it. 24 hours later, I logged on to the USPS tracking website and noticed that a "notice" has been left at the PO Box requesting someone pick it up from the local post office (Edit for clarity: 'local' as in Chicago local) because a signature's required for delivery.

I didn't request a signature but I wasn't explicit about NOT needing one, so I suppose it's my fault. I also didn't really think about using the second address published on the USCIS website: the one that says "Express and courier deliveries". Seems obvious to me now that Express packages get sent to the Express address. But I didn't have it in my mind that I was going to use a service called Express or that I'd necessarily get it couriered. I just wanted it sent fast and be notified once it was delivered. But anyway.

So what would be the quickest way to fix this? I already asked USPS if they could either deliver it to the proper Express/courier address, or just deliver it without requiring the signature but they can't do that once the package is in the mailing system. The way I see it, my options are:

- Hope someone signs for it within the next 5 days (surely this is unlikely?). If not, it then gets returned to us and we send it to the proper address

- I fill in a "request for intercept" form at the post office. Package then gets sent back to us - does anyone know how long this usually takes? - and we then send it back out to the proper address

I think that's probably our only options at the moment. Does anyone know if I have any others I may not have thought of? Anyone else been done this? Due to a number of other factors (wife's possible forthcoming redundancy, travel plans at end of summer) every day counts when getting this application in, so if anyone has any suggestions or bit of advice, I'd gratefully welcome them

Yeah I realise I should have used the second address. Too late now, but from some of your replies (and others I've read on other subforums on this site) it seems that it will definitely get signed for and delivered at some point. Phew. Thanks for the reassurances
