Hello Guys,

My spouse of Indian resident got her PCC from passport office recently. Does she also need to get PCC from district police station? Her passport was issued on Sept 20, 2011, so it's almost 6-month old. Also has the embassy rules changed because it only mentions getting PCC from passport office regardless if the passport issuance date was over 6-months.

Please advise.

Thanks!

If you look at the US consulate in Mumbai website, you'll see that for PCC, their requirement is a PCC issued by your local passport office only. So no worries, that's all your spouse needs.

The website DOES list only the Passport Office PCC, however when I called they told me that they require both the Passport and the Police PCC. We called the Police Commissioner for our city and he said that the Passport office and Commissioner PCC are the exact same, so getting it twice is redundant. Huh. I've read a few experiences for Mumbai Consulate and in those, I think most people said that the Passport PCC was sufficient.

Anyone out there with a different experience? It's a tad confusing with the Consulate officer saying one thing and their website and everyone else saying another.

I'm wondering if this is just another case of "whomever is working the desk, makes the rules".

I called NVC twice this week. They mentioned that PCC is not required for BMB cases at NVC stage. However, a PPC from passport office is required at the US Consulate during the interview time. Does anyone else confirm this.

Thanks!

Do you know how long is the Police Clearance Certificate valid? You got yours in September 2011, which is over 6 months now.

Valid for 6 months. Was confirmed by PSK Official.

Can anyone tell Police Clearance Validity and Passport Clearance Validity?

According to Mumbai Consulate website (http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivpolicecertificates.html) PCC is valid for one year from the date of issuance and must be valid on the day your visa is issued.

FYI, the passport office issues you a PCC only after you've been cleared by the local police station. So in effect, you're getting the same stuff again, which is totally unnecessary!

If you don't submit the PCC at NVC, you're likely to get an RFE.

Valid for 6 months. Was confirmed by PSK Official.

I'm not so sure, as the Mumbai consulate's website clearly states that the PCC from the local Passport office is valid for a year.

What I learned:

I am from New Delhi, India. Wanted to let people applying from here know that the US embassy in New Delhi require you to get two police certificates if you are an Indian citizen, residing here and your passport was issued more than 6 months before your application. Please note that one police clearance is required from your local Passport office and one from your district police (SSP's office)."

I don't know about the Delhi consulate, but as far as the Mumbai consulate is concerned, they only require the PCC issued by the local passport office. You can check it on their website too.
