hi guys, just want to ask for your ideas. my K1 visa will expire this March 10,2012, we will get married this March 8, 2012. but i was'nt able to apply for SSN yet. i just read that SSA will not give me SSN if my visa is about to expire. Is it true? I am planning to get SSN tommorrow, just wondering if they will issue me one. I am pregnant now and my husband does'nt have an insurance. Is there any way we xan apply for insurance using SSN?

thanks guys. will appreciate your thoughts.

They may not give you a SSN until you get married, or get a green card. Its up to the local office you visit, and varies greatly. I would go to you local office now and try to get the SSN. If your I-94's 90 days is ending, you may not be able to get an SSN until you get the EAD. I was able to add my wife to my insurance as soon as we got married. We did not have the SSN yet, but got it right after we were married. You can run into some resistance that way, but it can be done. The big problem you're going to run into is you are already pregnant. No insurance company is going to want to cover you because they already see a big payout. If they do, they will not cover the pre-existing condition of pregnancy. Insurance is a pool of money put in by many people to cover expenses for unexpected events. Well pregnancy is often expected, but its still a pool of people paying in over the long term. If everyone waited until they need it, then just bought it for the month they needed it, there would not be enough money to cover those expenses.

Your visa became null and void when you used it. You are now going by the I-94 expiry date. The SSA will not issue a SSN when the I-94 is within two weeks of expiry. You will now have to wait until you have a GC or an EAD. Moving your thread from the AOS Process section to the SSN section.

i went to the SS Office this morning and they did'nt give me SSN. The officer said that i need to update my I-94 for them to give me SSN.

anyways, it's my pregnancy that is freaking me out. I did'nt know that we are not covered by any insurance. :crying:

thanks guys,.

I can understand that worry, medical care is not cheap in the USA. Congrats on your pregnancy, although it might have been better timed if your husband to be had you on his insurance, its still a blessing from God. If you can, still try to get some medical insurance. Wellness checks are usually exempt from preexisting condition denials by the insurance company. You may save considerable costs in doctors visits before the actually birth and check ups after, which the child is also going to need.

Congrats on your wedding tomorrow to. Have a great celebration, and don't worry about these problems. You and your husband will find a way through this.
