RFE on translation

Hey everyone, we are working on AOS and we got an RFE asking for translations for all foreign language documents. When we were working on the K1 Fiance petition, I sent them my own translations and they were fine with that. I guess this time it was not ok because the item was a birth certificate. I went to my former college Spanish professor and he had it translated onto official university paper. I also assume that they wanted the passport translated so I had them do that to.

They also asked for proof of citizenship of the sponsor, which I thought I had given them. I will include that too.

My question is, does anyone have any tips about anything else I should be careful about or check first before I send this off? I'm nervous about it because they can reject you if they aren't satisfied with what you send back. I thought I had done this all right the first time since I've been very careful and thorough this whole time.

Hi, you must send his birth certificate translation again for AOS because you're going through a new process now. If this one and the sponsor's proof of citizenship were the only documents that they are requiring, don't have to send anything else.

You don't need to translate his passport's biographic page.

Translations can be done by anyone fluent in both languages. They just need to have the certification on them. As Danilu said, you do not need to translate the bio page of the passport. Ok good, yes the professor did have another sheet he signed with that kind of statement on it. He worded it somewhat different but all the same ideas there.

And as far as the proof of citizenship, a photocopy of the birth certificate is good enough, right? I mean they don't expect to send the original right?

Yes, a photocopy of birth certificate is perfect. At this stage, you don't send originals...only if you had an interview, you must bring them with you.

Guys, I was just reading the RFE and it says that "the translator must certify...that he is competent to translate." The professor doesn't actually say that he is, but underneath his name he has listed that he is a professor of Spanish at this particular university. Is that enough to certify his capabilities? Would that be enough for the govt?

Have him use the 'Certification by Translator' from the links I posted above. Have him put it on the bottom of the page with the translation, or on the back of the page if there is no room on the front.
