New Member to the Vj forums, but have been reading for quite some time.

After a whirlwind romance, I just married the love of my life in Tennessee and am heading home to Canada so we can start the long process of getting my Cr-1. I am doing a good portion of the visa application research since my new hubby is in the U.S. Army and is very busy, so please bear with any stupid or inane questions I have :)

I have a couple questions that I am seeki

--]The first step of the application process is the I-130 form, correct?

-- What exactly do they mean in terms of full birth certificate? My husband had the wallet-sized one with us when we got our marriage license, is this acceptable? Or are they referring to the long-form one that you have to order?

-- My husband and I aren't really big into e-mailing or chatting on things such as Facebook, Skype, yahoo chat etc. We met online through World Of Warcraft so our hours of conversation is lost on that front. Is this going to be a problem in proving our ongoing relationship? We have a joint bank account and some photos but not a whole heck of a lot (we are averse to cameras it would seem ), some of which are from our wedding. We are able to get the guy who introduced us and was at our wedding as well as my mother-in-law to provide affidavits to our relationship. I am worried that the shortness or our relationship prior to us getting married is going to be a hindrance to our Visa application. Am I freqking out over nothing? Our physical time together has been limited due to me doing my Masters degree and him being deployed to Afghanistan during the bulk of our courtship.

I apologize is these are repeat questions, I'm just so worried we are doomed in the application process and any help is greatly appreciated :)

-- My husband and I aren't really big into e-mailing or chatting on things such as Facebook, Skype, yahoo chat etc. We met online through World Of Warcraft so our hours of conversation is lost on that front. Is this going to be a problem in proving our ongoing relationship? If you don't have this type of evidence, do you have phone logs/bills? Pictures? Receipts from places you've been that coordinate with the pictures?

We are able to get the guy who introduced us and was at our wedding as well as my mother-in-law to provide affidavits to our relationship. How many wedding pics? Are there other people in these pictures? Affidavits are fine but they only go so far. It all depends on the CO.

I am worried that the shortness or our relationship prior to us getting married is going to be a hindrance to our Visa application. Am I freaking out over nothing? Our physical time together has been limited due to me doing my Masters degree and him being deployed to Afghanistan during the bulk of our courtship. The length of the relationship isn't always a make or break but that's where the evidence comes into play. If the relationship wasn't that long and there isn't much evidence to show the relationship, how will they know/believe you?

The beneficial side you have to this is that he's in the military and of course, you can't be with him and communicate as often if he's deployed. Immigration understands this. What I would suggest is, from this point on, start to email more, Skype, take a few more pics, and just find ways to communicate so that, by the time of the interview you will have more evidence.

Thank you for the fast reply!

I have not had a chance to see the wedding photos as my mother-in-law was the primary photographer at our small civil ceremony and she had to go home soon after as she had to extend her Christmas vacation just to come and drove 1100miles just to spend a couple hours with us. I will have to pester her for those.

I will do my best to get him chatting on Skype, etc more often.

I do have my military spousal ID, so should we include this in the visual proof as well? I have one or two of my boarding passes and some receipts (wedding rings, airport taxis from our limited visits. Not too many since it hadn't occurred to me to keep receipts from our dates at places like bowling alleys and movies... though I do have movie stubs but no pics) are these usable as well?

Most of the letters I wrote him while he was stationed have been lost in the return home, which is frustrating as we are compiling stuff for the I-130 :(

Hey good luck on all your looking for.

I am a WoW fan to and if you look in the chat setting or post a ticket to the devs there should be a chat log. You might have to enable it in the interface tab but I know there is one. Aslo try looking into a private vent server you might be able to log your conversation times there to.

Best to you both.

Well get those pics as they are going to play a large part of your evidence since you don't have much as far as internet stuff. Have her send them via email ... you print them out.

It will benefit you if you can do this even once a week. take some screen shots when you can. and if you utilize the message portion of skype, you can print all of those messages out.

The ID is great...and yes, photocopy for sure. You wont need the boarding passes, etc...until the actual interview but those are also very important so keep them close. I agree...you dont realize to keep receipts like that until it comes to this process. Stubs are good...I also had those.

Just write a letter stating about the letters, etc....again, him being in the military, they will understand the difficulties of your situation.

No problem.....when you send the petition, you dont need a ton of evidence but send a few pics, a few 3rd party affidavits from family/friends, and the rest of the evidence.....save for the interview. Don't send them too much in the beginning since they really aren't going to make the final decision. They just need enough to hush up and keep the petition moving along.... :D

Do just what everyone has previously told you.

I just want to add I'm from Tennessee also! Canadian's can't resist us southerners :)

I met my husband playing Final Fantasy XI, like you most of our conversations starting out were on the game. I did send in some screen shots that I used FRAPS to capture the text between us. I also included one from our wedding in game :)

My husband has sent me a total of 1 email since we've been together six years. I went ahead and included it.

You can also use cell phone records if you send texts. I know my bill shows all incoming and out going texts to what number. I high lighted the ones from the two of us. I sent in about three pages worth. (BTW Telus and Verizon are free to text between the US and Canada. We both have unlimited text plans. Sprint and AT&T charge for texts to Canada)

We use Skype and keep it on in the background when we play. Skype keeps a call log, even though there's no text I printed out the logs showing dates, times and how long we were on Skype.

Get an RBC USA access and RBC Royal Bank joint accounts. He does not need to be a Canadian citizen, all they use is his passport or birth certificate to put him on the Canadian account. And since he's the US citizen, they just use your ID to put you on the US account. Go to your local RBC branch and tell them you want to open a joint USA Access and RBC chequing account. They'll be happy to help you out, and your hubby can fax all the info to them. Voila you have a joint bank account and RBC makes it stupid easy to send money to each other if you need to.
