Okay, I'm a rye and ginger girl, and brought my Danfield's Reserve with me when I crossed over. I'm busy trying out the offerings available to me here, and was wondering if anyone has any reviews they'd like to pass along?

Danfield's is a dry rye, very oaky/woody with the right mix of spice, I don't like my drink too sweet.

I've also been known to drink Alberta Premium which is a bit more citric but still yum.

I used to drink a Canadian Club 15 year, that is now discontinued, it was all of the above but with a little toasted caramel added in.

I'm not a fan of the new CC, nor can I stand Canadian Mist, (though I hear that it has a premium version that might be worth trying if I can find it) and the Crown Royal LE is not available anywhere nearby according to their website, and according to the store shelves I've seen.

I did pick up a Black Velvet yesterday, it's nice, but not as spicy as I like my rye to be. It was a little like a sherry, and fragrant with floral notes, closer to the Seagram's Seven that my husband drinks, but thank god, not as sweet as that.

I'm wondering about American Ryes, and what I should be looking for to try, I've seen Sazerac and Templeton on the shelf, and was wondering from any Canadian rye drinkers what their thoughts were on them?

Oh, yeah, Dad's planning a trip down here in the summer, and he's going to have to bring me some Danfield's!

I am not rye drinker, but your post sparked my curiosity so I wikipedied rye and there are different sections discussing the variations of Canadian and American rye. So interesting! Anywho, there's a long list of various American rye distillers. It's lengthy! Might be worth seeing what's most local and if you like it!

I have to say that I miss Canadian Smirnoff Ice. In the US it's considered a "malt" beverage and in Canada it's a 'vodka' beverage. I much prefer the Canadian version, even though I'm sure they're very similar!

Oh, I accidentally bought a Schmirnoff Ice here, and no, it's not the same, it's horrible. I would much rather recommend you find a good lemonade and add your own vodka rather than try the Schmirnoff Ice here. Yuck! Thanks for the link though, I'll check it out!

They do sell Shmirnoff vodka in big bottles with different flavours... I am pretty sure those are vodka based....

Smirnoff Ice and Smirnoff vodka are two different things. The Ice is a bubbly flavored malt and the vodka is.. vodka. :P

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

I picked up a Revel Stoke whiskey last night, it's a spiced whiskey, and it was really nice. I would recommend it as both a sipping whiskey and one to try in a drink, I had it with Schweppes (as the Canada Dry was all sold out) and it took off the sweetness of the pop nicely! What is it about american pop that makes it so darn sweet? Do they put in twice the sugar??

Late to this thread, but my favorite Canadian whisky is 40 Creek. Very smooth. I pick some up at duty free every time I cross the border.
