Birth Certificate. Copy or Original?

I'm filing for the removal of conditions on green card for my wife right now.

We have a baby, so we're submitting the birth certificate.

On the request for evidence sheet that we received it says "submit a legible copy of birth certificate."

So I made a copy, and then read on my birth certificate "the reproduction of this document is prohibited by law."

Am I supposed to submit a copy or the original?

If the wording on the original is bothering you then go to your local vital records place and get a certified copy of the original from them. DO NOT repeat DO NOT send in the original as it is the ORIGINAL. What happens if you never get it back?

In the instructions it states that copies are fine and originals will not be returned, but will become part of the record. You can take the original to the interview, if there is one, to show them, but DO NOT let them keep it.

Good luck,

Dave

Hmmm.. I got a another basic question then..

I guess I didn't understand the concept of "original."

The only thing I got as "birth certificate" is the certified copy from the health department.

Where and how do I even get "original" copy of the birth certificate, then?

For the purpose of this exercise, the certified copy of your birth certificate is an original document. The "original" birth certificate probably doesn't exist anymore, or is stored in an underground vault, except on microfiche, or in electronic form.
