I spent 16 years in Bangalore before moving back to Kerala. The question is, do I need to get a police clearance certificate from Bangalore as well? If so, does anyone have an idea as to how to go about it, cos I always lived in rented houses in Bangalore and don't remember the addresses there, except for the one I have on my old passport, where I was staying at the time the passport was issued.

Generally all records are checked online based on your passport name, number, dob, etc etc. Based on that, they can verify all records national-wide. I got my PCC within 4 hours from Passport Seva Kendra, Chennai, even though, my passport was originally issued from Lucknow, and I have lived couple of places in India for a year or more.

Just require for 1 PCC from your nearest Passport Office. It would be enough for embassy.

The fact is that if someone ever committed crime, then they dont need 6 months to live before they able to commit. That is why they have online system to check national-wide records.

So what you mean to say is that I can get a clearance certificate from Trivandrum itself. All I need to do is provide both my old and new passport numbers. Is that it?

Also you've mentioned that you got your clearance certificate from the Passport Seva Kendra. I was under the impression that you've got to get in touch with the City Police Commissioner for that. I'm kinda confused. Please elaborate on that...

Hi iwaiting,

I applied for PCC in Hyderabad passport office and they said they need 20 days to give PCC as they didn't do verification when they given the passport. They said they will stamp on passport. Does the passport office give a separate letter of PCC or stamping on the passport is enough. How was it done for you.

Thanks.

All you have to bring your new passport. Just bring your old cancelled passport ( Just in case if they ask ). Passport Seva Kendra is really peace of mind, and they have advanced system to manage the things, and they do the things more faster. Of course, there has been alot of story to obtain the PCC, and I got scared to know the crazy process. But when I got in touch with Passport Seva Kendra, then everything was easier than I ever thought. Just within 4 hours, and PCC was in my hand. :)

The bottom line is that Immigration department require 1 Passport PCC, and you have to collect it from passport office.

Please note, this is India, where laws are different in every city, and it depends up to officials awareness, whether they know the things or they dont know. The best thing is that, contact your nearest passport office, and follow the process whatever they say. If there was Passport Seva Kendra in your location, then you could be more relaxed.

If you are aware, Passport Seva Kendra is operated by TCS, and of course, granting officers are from gov's end.

Like I had to re-issue my passport, I booked my appointment under Tatkal on Dec 12th, went there with all necessary doc. They did all process in same day within few hours. They reviewed the things, and granted my re-issue passport. Within same day, it was printed, and was delivered in hand on Dec 14th morning. I really wish, PSK should be in every part of India, so everyone may have convenient for the passport, re-issue & PCC.

Seems like you went to wrong person for PCC.

I checked on PSK if they have any office in Hyd. Yes, they do have. http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/locatePSK/locatePFCInp

If you apply for PCC thru PSK, then they can grant it within same day. Some of PSK center may require to fix an appointment for PCC, but some of center dont require. It is better to call customer care to confirm which center doesnt require to fix an appointment for PCC.

Like in Chennai, they have 3 PSK, but 2 of their PSK do not require appointment for PCC & 1 of their PSK do not require appointment for Re-issue/New Passport.

All you have to do, fill the application online, take the print, and visit their PSK center. Simple! They will grant you PCC within same day.

I have attached a PCC sample for you and others, hope it is helpful to know.

PSK stamped on my passport plus gave me PCC letter. I requested 2 copies, so I gave one copy to NVC and one copy is still with me for interview.

Hope it helps.

If you want to apply for PCC in bangalore, you need to go the Commisioner's Office on Infantry road. There are 2 kinds of PCC one jus normal check & the other for job. You need to take 2/4 photographs & fill the forms and submit xerox copies of passport. You cannot pay the fees at the Commissioner's office and the same has to be paid at State bank of Mysore (Opp to Bowring Hospital, Shivajinagar) . The chalan has to be submitted at the Commissioner's office along with the forms. It may take about 2 weeks to get PCC.

Hope this helps !!

Thanks iwaiting for the sample. I applied through PSK online and took an appointment and shown my passport at Passport office on that day. Passport office would have given the PCC on the same day, but they didn't have the police verification done before. So they started the process of police verification and as soon as they are done, they said they would email me. I have to go to passport office with my passport for the stamp. I will ask for 2 copies of PCC as you did. Thanks again. I hope to get the PCC in the next 3 weeks. Hopefully I get the interview date in Feb 2012.

All right! :) Hope you get your PCC soon.

You know, in PSK, Counter A guy, who accepts all doc, fingerprint, etc, he told me that my PCC would take 10-15 days as my passport was issued from different state plus have different state address on passport. It really pissed me off to hear about 10-15 days delay. Then waited for Counter B, he just passed the file within 1 min, then waited for Counter C ( Granting Officer ), he was very nice, he granted me PCC within 10 min. It was totally amazing! :) It was totally God's micracle to get PCC same day, when esp counter A guy told me that it would take 10-15 days timeframe for my case.

iwaiting, I just checked.... there's no PSK in Kerala. and my renewed passport was issued here in Kerala. So temme, what choices do I have? Do I need to get one from a PSK in Bangalore for my now canceled passport? If not, since there isn't a PSK here, how do I go about it?

You only need one PCC, which can be collected from Kerela Passport office. Records are checked national-wide. Kerela passport authority can see all of your cancelled passport history, records, etc etc. I personally saw these things in Granting Officer computer.

If there is no PSK, but you can obtain PCC from any nearest passport office. Of course, they may be little slow, and process may have little hassle, but just follow that, and get your PCC in your hand. That is what I can say.

Hello guys,

I like to prepare all documents in before hand.

I still have not received NOA2, so I was wondering of the following questions: :innocent:

1) Is "Police Clearance Certificate" and "Passport Clearance Certificate" the same thing?

2) Should I get Police Clearance Certificate & Passport Clearance Certificate now?

3) I heard if i get it now, it will be valid for next 6 months, is this correct?

4) What are the requirement for "Police Clearance Certificate" & "Passport Clearance Certificate"? such as : # number of Months validity? etc...

Thank you

#1 - It is not passport clearance certificate but a police clearance certificate that you require.

#2 - Check the timeframe to get PCC in your location based on your case. Once you get NOA2, then apply for PCC right away. Because it takes around 3 to 4 weeks to get your NVC case number. Lets say if interview takes some time or whatever, but your PCC will remain valid.

#3 - yes, it is valid for 6 months.

#4 - If passport is same as your current address, you just require: Old passport in original with self-attested photocopy of its first two and last two pages including ECR/Non-ECR page and page of observation (if any).

to get PCC. Plus it solely depend up to your location officials. If they are ease, then things would be easier.
