We got Welcome letter in 18 days and Green card in 29 days. Haven't yet received SSN - Looks like will have to go to the nearest Social Security Office and get one. Right now a bit busy and will do later.

Depends on how fast you apply for AOS, it could take 3 months to 6 months if you have no RFe's or interview after Biometrics. Good luck getting a SSI card, even though she is eligble most offices dont know the law and I stopped trying after about the 5th time, irrelevant to have one it doesn't make you legal to work. I was able to get my now wife on my health insurance with out one and waited till after the greencard to get it. When you do the Aos,apply for the temporary work visa(EAD) that will come before greecard and is free if file at the same time.

I am not asking about the process of applying green card and the time to wait for the interview. I am asking about the time to wait for the green card in mail after someone has entered the United States on an immigrant visa.

Thats how long it could take,depends on your app and if you have no mistakes or Rfe's. Granted some people have received them in 4 to 6 weeks. There is a web site you can check your status after you recieve the first letter.

After I found out I was approved off the web site it took approximately 2 weeks.

I'm sorry but I think you still haven't quite understood the question. Kamhoe is talking about receiving the Green Card after you enter on an immigrant visa such as a spouse visa. At that point the application is complete and approved so there will be no mistakes or RFEs - they just need to produce and mail out the card. I did my POE last Sunday at Atlanta and they told me three to six weeks.

Oh, welcome to USA! You entered the country on the same day as my wife.

I am not too worry about the green card processing, I am concerning about if the USCIS will remember to inform the SSA office as I had selected to apply for SSN on her immigrant visa form.

3 weeks and we never got SS card, just go to the local ss office, that is what many people have to do

This is the reason I ask for! I hate to go to the SSA office as it always crowded and long wait!

My experience is with K1, possibly the Cr1 is different and you started the Aos abroad? If thats the case then I apoligize for any misgivings. I had to marry first within 90 days then start my Aos.

AOS is only applied to the foreigner that has entered United States on a non-immigrant visa or K-1 visa and adjusts to a new immigrant status through USCIS. CR1/IR1 is granted for an immigrant visa from U.S. embassy/consular and will be granted for green card when enter United States.

My husband received his green card about 3 weeks after his POE. After a month, we still hadn't received his social security card in the mail. This Monday we went to the office to apply. The receipt they gave us shows he applied for his social security card on November 7, which makes sense since his POE was November 2. So USCIS sent his information to the SSA, but clearly they did nothing with it. I called for a status today and was told no number had ever been established for him...after all that time.

For those that applied in person, how long did it take to receive the card in the mail?

Oh, welcome to USA! You entered the country on the same day as my wife.

That's cool, I hope she is settling in well. I am expecting to have to go to the SSA office in a few weeks - after Christmas probably. If a card turns up in the mail it will be a nice surprise,
