Hi,

My parents had their IR-5 visa interview today (12/07/2011) at the American Embassy in Kuwait. They had their fingerprinting done and also took the oath. But at the end of the interview, my dad was given the Section 221(g) Administrative Processing letter. Both of my parents had their documents returned to them, along with the passports. My mom didn't get that letter, but her passport was returned to her.

So what does this really mean? I understand that my dad has to go through the painful, agonizing wait for the AP to clear. Is it name checks, FBI clearance, etc? Anyone have any experience on how long this takes? How 'common' is this AP refusal? The visa officer said the usual...week to weeks time frame. So what happens with my mom's visa then? Does she have to wait too?

Since my parents are Bangladeshi nationals, can they move back to Bangladesh (if nothing happens in a couple of months) and continue the visa process at the American Embassy in Bangladesh, at this point? What is process to move the case at this stage of the process.

Any info would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dear AHKHAN99,

My 2 cents on this. Based on certain ethnic background an AP Is pretty common. For Bangladeshi men there are at least 2 men I know are currently on AP. one lady who applied for get husband is on he 16 weeks waiting without any answer and by the way the interview was flawless. Unless one is denied, it is hard to assume the timeline and outcome of an AP. I would recommend you contact DOS.

Good luck and all the bed for your parents.
