ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE SPONSORS ISRAEL TRIP FOR RICK SANCHEZ…FORMER CNN ANCHOR WHO WAS FIRED FOR ANTI-SEMITIC REMARKS

Remember Rick Sanchez?

He was the hotheaded television ancor who lost his job at CNN for comments he made last year that Daily Show Host Jon Stewart was a bigot, and that Jewish people like Stewart “run” all the news networks.

One year later, Sanchez was one of 17 Latino journalists in Israel last week on a trip sponsored by The Anti-Defamation League, one of the country’s most well known advocacy groups to fight anti-Semitism. The Jerusalem Post reports that the trip was funded by the ADL as a way to reach out to the growing population of Latin Americans and US Hispanic communities, a group that the ADL perceives to have a less favorable view of Israel and a higher level of anti-Semitic views when compared to the population at large.

Sanchez apologized for his anti-Semitic remarks, once again, to the Jerusalem Post Friday. The 53-year-old Cuban-born journalist insisted he wasn’t trying to imply anything about Jewish influence, “but the liberal, Northeast elite’s dominance in the media.”

The editorial writer in the Jerusalem Post Friday asked if Sanchez’s trip to Israel culminating “a number of months of self-imposed anti- Semitism rehab under the auspices of ADL” was necessary?

“It seems much more likely that instead of holding the kind of insidious, villainous anti-Jewish prejudices that he was accused of,” wrote Jeremy Sharon. “Sanchez is simply extremely prone to putting his foot in his mouth.”

One year later, do you think Sanchez’s explanation for his remarks and apology is genuine? Do you think it was appropriate for the ADL to sponsor his trip?
