So, I put this question simple and short. I got my greencard in July of 2010 on a basis of marriage to USC. Is this right time to file N-400 ? I have an another question if it is better to hire an immigration lawyer will be better and guaranteed outcome. I highly anticipated answers from people have experienced. Thank you.

If your situation is straight forward and simple, like being still married, taxes filed regularly, no long absences from US during this 3 year period, no arrests etc., then IMHO, save your money. You don't need an attorney.

Its seems like you are already past the 3 year timeline. You can file now.

PS: I am not a lawyer, but a fellow immigrant in the same journey.

09/1991 - Came to the US on F1

06/2002 - Became a Permanent Resident

Naturalization Journey

10/12/11: Sent N-400 to Dallas lockbox via USPS certified mail

10/18/11: Delivery confirmed

10/21/11: Check cashed

10/25/11: Got NOA by mail. Priority date 10/18

10/28/11: FP notice received by mail

11/18/11: FP done per schedule

01/03/12: Yellow letter received (dated 12/12/11)

01/06/12: Status changed to Testing and Interview (inline for scheduling)

01/18/12: Status changed to Interview Scheduled

01/21/12: IL Received

02/23/12: Interview: approved. Oath: completed

Phew, what a journey! I am a US Citizen.

02/27/12: Applied for U.S. Passport & Passport card

03/26/12: Received passport

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. It is really nice to hear someone out there other than myself is a fellow immigrant. I don't feel totally alone :) Have a wonderful day buddy

As NotBonJovi pointed out, if you have a straightforward case, you can do the application easily on your own. Just read the N-400 instructions very carefully. Make sure to fill out the N-400 form correctly and include all the documentation, photos, check for the fee etc.

You are eligible to file in your citizenship application now, as your 3 yr waiting period ended on July 2011. Just make sure that you satisfy all other eligible criteria - continuous residence, physical presence etc. According to me, immigration attorneys are a must if your case is a complex one. But if it is simple and straight, then you can very well complete the form by yourself. If you want to be sure that your application doesn't get rejected, then you can avail the help of immigration service providers, who help with the filling of forms. You need to pay a nominal fee though!! Some of them are uscitizenship.info, immigrationdirect.com etc. Filling up the form by yourself is the best way according to me. Good Luck with the process!

Thank you newcitizen and jessica. actually i've been travelled out side of the country for 2 months each year for twice. So I guess i should be alright in this case. I think 99.9% I made up my mind for doing it by myself but we will see about the rest 0.1% because I do not want to make any typo or error lol Thank you guys again and you have a great day :)
