machine readable passports ...SOS CALL...HELP

Folks Sorry for posting my K-3 question in K-1 section but this is an SOS call for any body who knows !

Is it mandatory for pakistanis to have new machine readable passports for K-3 interview ?

My wife interveiw is in less than one week and somebody just told us that the old passport which is not machine readable is no longer valid and that we need to have a new machine readable passports. The old passport is valid till 2009. Does any one know ?

Timeline

Yes the new law is in effect and she does need machine readable passport. She can still interview and they will issue a 221g for missing or incomplete evidence and once she submits the new passport they will issue the visa. Good luck.
