Hello, let me just state the history of my ex-girlfriend and I. We became a couple February 2000. Way back when we were still in high-school in the Philippines, then came 2005 and I moved here in the U.S. We tried to hold a long distance relationship for about 2 years but the distance was just too much and we broke up. The following years we rarely communicated. maybe a short greeting via e-mail during holidays and birthdays, but no long conversations.

Then came, February of this year 2011. I went to the Philippines for a 3 week vacation, I met up with her through mutual friends, turns out we were both single at the time, spent a lot of time together during my stay and realized the spark was still there and decided to give it one more try. So I came back here in the U.S. I immediately applied for Naturalization. I just took my interview this September, and passed. As I wait for my Oath Ceremony notice I went to the Philippines to see her again. Stayed for about a month. My Oath Taking Ceremony is tomorrow and I plan on petitioning her for a fiance visa soon afterward. Now my questions are:

1. Should we provide proof that we were once in a long-term relationship before? or just provide proof of an on-going relationship starting the day we got back together this year.

2.Should we bother saying the we used to be together and just reconciled?

3. Would petitioning someone after just 9 months of being together be seen as too short of a relationship?

These are my main inquiries for now, any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

it doesnt matter if you have only been together for 1 month as long as you have met face to face in the past 2 years.

The requirements are to explain how you originally met, and to have met once within the 2 years prior to petitioning. At interview stage you need to show evidence of ongoing relationship - it isn't historic, it is the ongoing relationship from petitioning until interview stage in her embassy.

So you initially met in High School and evidence of having met within the past 2 years is shown by passport stamps, boarding passes etc. They don't need to know of the details of the earlier relationship. Best of luck with your petition.

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number

Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere, and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .

1. makes no difference for the petition. None.

2. Makes no difference for the petition

3. No.

Go for it. Good luck. If you want to include evidence of your previous relationship for the INTERVIEW that would be fine. Stating you were a couple and then got back together is not evidence. But it would not hurt.

There is NO requirement to explain how you originally met. None. The requirement is to explain and provide evidence that you have met in person at least ONE TIME in the 24 months prior to filing the petition, USCIS could not possibly care less how you "originally met"

Ok, then I must have a different copy of I-129F - Question 18... mine says:

Has Your fiance(e) met and seen you within the two year period immediately preceding the filing of this petition?

Then...

Describe the circumstances under which you met. etc. etc.... (it does not specify, the meeting within the last 2 yrs)..

- but whatever?

Thanks for the inputs guys. And would anyone care to clarify Andie's comments? Because it's the same question 18 on my form as well.

Side note: My Oath Taking is tomorrow morning and I truly can't wait to get the ball rolling on this one. :)

It is one question, not two. It is asking if you have met in person within the last two years. YES. Describe how you met. Don;t even be silly.

What if you "Met" 11 years ago, you think they want to hear that if you have not met withon the last two years?

Now, will there be any penalty if you describe how you "met" and then how you met in person? No. Go for it. It is, however, wrong to say it is REQUIRED to describe how you initially met.

Andie is wrong.

It is only one question, question 18. Describe how you met in person within the last two years. If you have met 1,267 times, you only need to describe ONE of them and you can fit it in the box provided. They do not need a history, love story, novel, or resume. Describe how you met in person.

"On May, 16, 2011 I flew to Australia and met Andie at the airport" would suffice. It is, within a few words the exact answer I gave.

It does not matter that Andie is from New Zealand. I met my Ukrainian wife in CZ Republic!

Ok, thanks for all the replies guys. Much appreciated. I just got my Certificate of Naturalization and the Oath Taking ceremony is truly an unforgettable moment for me. Now on to my next journey...

I've been getting mixed answers on my next question. Do i still need to fill out the boxes that asks for my A#? or do I just put N/A or NONE? Since I already have a Certificate of Naturalization no.
