Hi

We have an update on our SSN application. From my last post, some of you might already know that we had problems with the I-94 as it was never given back at Atlanta, GA. After a few phone calls to Customs & Border Protection (CBP) at Atlanta Airport and sending 2 fax copies of my passport they did send the I-94 in mail.

We then went to apply for the SSN on Sept 11, 2006 (day 16 since my arrival) only to find out that the details were not yet available in the SSA systems. They were kind enough and said they will keep checking for us in the next 10 days and if they still dont get them then they will send a request to USCIS which will delay the process by **AT LEAST** 30 days.

Now here's the update. We went back to the SSA office on Monday Sept 18 just to make sure they had not forgotten to check the system for us. They told us that they had just received our details that morning and that if we come again tomorrow (as the systems are updated overnight) then they will be able to give us some official proof of the SSN and the card will arrive within 1 week.

So yesterday (Tue), we went back and got a stamped letter from them stating "Our records indicate that SSN XXX-XX-XXXX is assigned to..."

Now we can go ahead and get our marriage license yippeeee.

Regards,

Jahan/Christine

You got an SSN Verification Printout. Doesn't it also say that it doesn't authorize work?

Yes, the printout says "This printout does not verify your right to work in the United States."

md, I'm not sure what you are inferring (if anything) - I don't think Jahan is concerned with being able to work at the moment. He just wants to be able to get the marriage license.

Not inferring anything, just verifing he was given an SSN Verification Printout.

That is correct Becca, at this time I am only concerned about the SSN. Although I want to get to work ASAP bcoz I get bored at home all the time...so hopefully Charlotte will do the EAD quickly when we send them the AOS package...fingers crossed.

Any one knows if we can submit the AOS application in person by scheduling an InfoPass appt?

Thanks for all the replies.

Jahan
