Hi everyone, I have a quick question in relation to the medical. Our application was submitted and received on the 11th July of this year. We had hoped for Jess to come over and visit my family before she steals me away but it looks like circumstances are not going to allow that to happen so I will be heading over to her around the middle of November for two weeks.

My question is that if we get notification that our application has progressed and my medical is due during this time frame do I have to drop everything and fly to London for the medical or are they flexible with arranging it? Is it a case that we get told that I can have my medical and that I phone and arrange it for a time when I am back in the country?

Thanks for any help you can give us :-)

i believe the medical can be arranged to suit you... when you get your case number you can just call them and arrange a time and date that works for you :)

Thanks ladies and gents :) Just looking at flights now. Silly question but how long did it take you all to get through Customs/Immigration on the US side when you landed? Most times I've flown from Dublin and they do their checks before you even board the aircraft

For me, about twenty minutes - and that included being in the queue! Very easy. But it really depends on where you're flying to, what time of day, and who you get. I flew to San Francisco, where I have never been hassled, and I landed in the evening, when it was relatively quiet.

Are you having a layover? If so, I'd leave at least three hours, especially when going through immigration.

Looking at the flights if I go from Belfast its an hour and a half (90 minutes) lay over. Between clearing immigration, booking onto the connecting flight and passing security again (assuming my luggage is just put straight on connecting flight as its the same airline) I think its a little tight. Grand total for that trip with another two connections is 20 something hours....

If I fly from Dublin though there is one connection and TSA do the approving before the plane is even boarded. Also the total flight time is under 15 hours so that may be a winner :P
