Posted this under the August 2011 topic, but thought more VJers might see it and respond if I started a new topic...

"Rin received her NOA on 8/23, but has yet to receive her FP notice. I have checked her case using the "Application Number" at the top of the NOA and it says the application is under review. However, today I noticed another NBC* number at the bottom of the letter under the USCIS office address. Entered it, and it came back saying a FP notice was sent on September 2, 2011. Can someone check their NOA and let me know if they have a number at the bottom of the NOA? Does it match the one at the top? The one at the bottom of mine ends in 766? Same as others or different? "

I think mine do match (I don't have my NOA with me at the moment). However, it is OK if the numbers are different as long as you put the correct one in the online system and it reads you information.

That's the issue. When I check online, they are both for Citizenship application, but their status is not the same (one shows initial review, the other shows biometrics letter has been sent on September 2 - we have yet to receive anything regarding her bio appt and don't want to miss it).

When I go home today I can check and re-post.

Are you considering to call USCIS and ask about this?

Thanks. I plan to call them tomorrow (called before when going thru the K3 process - I'd rather have a root canal than talk to USCIS....).

Called USCIS at lunch today (Rin had to also be on the call as she is the Applicant). The first person I spoke with said the numbers should match. They don't. He could not see any info regarding the number (privacy reasons - first line must be an outside firm) so he had to transfer me to someone else. The second individual asked Rin more questions to verify identity then looked up both numbers. Turned out the number at the bottom was for a guy named Mohammad. She also was able to tell us that the application was forwarded from NBC to the local Memphis office on August 29th and that it entered their biometrics queue on September 6th. An appointment letter has not been sent as they send them out two weeks in advance and their queue is over two weeks long. We should receive it before 30 days, and if not, then call back and they will fax a copy of the appointment letter to us.

Overall, the service from USCIS was very good. Have to cancel the root canal....

I also have a bottom number different from the top one.

In my case, the bottom number though contains "$" sign whereas the top one has "*".

The following thread suggests the bottom number with a "$" sign is a receipt number for your payment. The top number is your case number.
