I read on Egypt Daliy news. you can not get a visa upon entry anymore.

I called my Egyptian consulate and they confirmed it, you have to get your visa from your local Egyptian Consulate before you go. Fee is $20.00, bring passport and 1 passport picture with you. If your married to a Egyptian national. bring wedding cert, and there is no charge for Visa.

I think it is a more of a international security issue right now. They are having a lot of issue's with Isreal. And Egypt is really a very private country on this stuff, so think of it as a saftey issue. I am sure they hated to do that, cuz they depend on tourism for much fincial support.

I'm supposed to be leaving in 2 weeks for Egypt. There isn't a local consulate that I'm aware of (Atlanta). Hm, now I'm getting a little concerned about what to do, can't get a human on the phone at their HQ in DC. Anyone with any more information on the state of tourist visas, please share any info.

Is it the same for us who are married to Egyptians? I wonder if we still will be paying a fee or not? Like if we bring our marriage cert w/us or hubby to the Embassy?

Tamara, no visa fee if you show the consulte your marriage license. Just bring your passport and (1) passport pic, and your Egyptian marriage certificate. I called the Egyptian consulate in Houston today and talked to them.

Talked to the consulate in DC and they told me visa processing is 10 business days. I'm leaving in 10 business days from now. They can't guarantee that I'll have my passport back before I'm supposed to leave for my trip. Not really so sure what to do except hire one of the online services who claim they can get it done in a few days.

Not sure if its wise to trust in an online thing right now to get your visa. This is something new w/Egypt and if they are saying get it done through the Embassy then thats probably the best way to go for now. Can you pay the post office to over night the passport and also show the embassy your flight itenary of the date you are flying to Egypt and ask that Egyptian Embassy send it back to you asap so you dont miss your flight?

I asked the lady at the DC embassy those exact questions, but she told me that it's a 10 business day processing time and there would be no guarantee that they could get it done before those 10 business days (no matter whether I sent it overnight, paid for overnight return shipping, sent my flight info, etc.). She honestly wasn't very helpful at all. That's why I'm a little panicky about the whole thing. Ah well, it's just all new for us... I'm sure we'll all adjust. I just wish the Egyptian government would leave me a bigger window in which to make certain I do things correctly. Right now I'm left with no time to take care of things properly without paying a service a premium to walk my passport through at the Houston location. Wish there was a consulate in Atlanta.

Update from here... I just spoke with Nabila at the Houston embassy and she is going to help me secure a visa before my trip. She was extremely kind and helpful, so if any of you need someone to talk to I'd highly recommend calling to talk to her at (713) 961-4915. Their normal processing time is 2-5 business days, but when I explained my situation, she outlined a process for me to get my documents to her so that she could "take care" of me. Thank God for awesome people.
