Hello All! Thanks for your very warm welcome here. I am very lucky to find this site early in the process. I am flying to China for the first time this November to meet my sweetheart, who I have come to know, love, and respect. Thanks Shenzhen for the tip on the calling card. It's AMAZING how inexpensive it is to call China!

I have read many of the posts and I do have a question:

My sweetheart from China has a 7 year old daughter. Her daughter is currenly living with her grandparents in China in a very happy and stable household, and it was our intent to spend a couple of years together first once she comes to the USA, to build our relationship before bringing her daughter here. My question is; is it always better to apply for the K1 and K2 visa at the same time? If the K2 visa is approved at the same time, will we have to bring her daughter here within 1 year? It might not be a big issue, and we may want to bring her daughter here in the first year anyway, but we want to understand the options.

Thanks everyone for your advise and help! I have already been saving e-mails since we met online in June. I know it is early, but it's good to plan ahead. I plan on taking many pictures of us and her family during our visit, keeping airline tickets to Beijing and also to her hometown. And I am already tentative planning a second trip this December also to visit her a second time. will my case be stronger is I wait to apply for the K1 visa after my second trip?

Thank you all and God Bless!

Eric

The K2 does not need to be applied for at the same time as the K1. Your significant other's daughter can follow to join at a later date using a K2.

IMO, it's best to file for a K1 after that second trip.
