Hi Guys,

My case got approved and now sent to Vietnam Consulate. Then I bought a ticket and flew to Vietnam. A few days ago I recieved an interview date set for September 23. My wife is expected to give birth this week. I want to reschedule. When I arrived at the Consulate theres two windows area. Theres window A and Windows B. Windows B said that I shouldnt reschedule because its 1-2 years old if I reschedule, is this true? then I went to Windows A they just gave me a reschedule sheet and ask to come back in two weeks when they recieve our application.

Anyone encounter a reschedule for any reason thats in a reasonable timeframe not 1-2 years out?

why do you want to reschedule again if the baby is due this week? my sister was up and about 1-2 weeks after she gave birth. plus the consulate will give her priority and she won't even have to wait that long.

one pro to delaying is your baby will certainly have to be CRBA'd so that process could take 1-2 months...so either way the CO will need to see that through before he issues pink.

I know what u mean. I don't want to reschedule but in rural areas that I wife in she has to stay in bed for a month sleeping on coal. Today is 22 in Vietnam and we are a month aways. She's past her due date already and expected this week. This is just a back up plan just incase my wife give hard birth. Sometimes here in Vietnam they slit the bottom to deep so ull have to be in bed longer. So this is just a precaution. What if I have to reschedule kind of thing

my wife came from a rural area also and with viet tradition she also stayed in bed for a month with her head covered and ears with cotton etc...altho i haven't heard of this sleeping on coal thing.

my advice would be to get her to the nearest big city where the facility and care is more modern and up-to-date in case she needs to have a c-section since the baby is overdue. you don't want to put your family's welfare into these little provincial hospitals' hands. i would be very nervous...do your wife that favor please.

p.s. sleeping on coal sounds pretty ridiculous. use some of your 1st world country common sense and education and overrule these backward rural area ideas/traditions to make better judgement/decisions please.

Sleeping on top of coal is very normal for VNese. It's a well-known folklore. But if she's already here in the States, how do you suppose she would be able to do that? Houses in the US aren't just built to accommodate beds with a burning coal at the bottom, LOL. As long as she doesn't stay in touch with water for too long, ie. long bath, washing dishes, giving bath to the baby, she'll be OK (later in her life she'll less likely to complain "it's too cold in here" and you two won't have to fight over the temperature setting for the A/C thermostat)

With all that said, if I were you, I'd advise her unless she expects the delivery occurring within a very short time frame from the scheduled interview date, KEEP the appointment!

I agree with quann and Hotvitlon too.

1) I wouldn't trust a hospital in small rural villages.

2) There is absolutely NO benefit to sleeping with coal placing under the bed. The only benefit I see is that it might keep the woman warm as she might be in a fragile state after giving birth. However sleeping with coal is actually very dangerous to both your wife and child. Burning coal actually emits CO2 and MERCURY + whatever else in which your wife will breath in.

The breathed-in-mercury will then be presence in milk that will then be consumed by the child.

I know that houses in Vietnam are more ventilated than houses in the US but all in all is still risky.

I wouldn't reschedule now until 2 weeks before your interview as I think 2 weeks is a good amount of time for a women to recover after given birth given enough nutrition and rest.

Best of luck and congratulations!

Doanh, thanks for the advice. Thats what I was planning to do. Reschedule a week before date if she isn't well enough.

About the coal sleeping thing. I agree to all what you're saying. Some of these tradition cant really be go against when you're here in Vietnam. Its hard =( ....but her bed is elevated above the coal so its not that bad. in Saigon/hochiminh/city area they don't use this method but in rural areas like Tay Ninh farmland area its common.

About the rescheduling, I'm not going to reschedule yet.. If she give birth this week. she'll recover 2-3 week from now which give her about 1 week to do her medical exams. Perfect timing of things goes well. If it all goes the opposite way then I have to reschedule.

What I was hoping about the rescheduling is its in a good time frame like 1-2 months not like 1-2 years that those Vietnamese translators tries to scare you with. I'm an American almost born (3 years old I been in United States) and not an idiot. But meh when it come to the consulate here in Ho Chi Minh I have no idea what to believe. Its so corrupted. Literally everything I do has to bribe. When I first arrived here two weeks ago. I had to go submit my papers to the Police in the area. They said to come back tomorrow to get my papers. I dont like the ideas of leaving my papers away from me. I pull out $200,000 and he did the papers immediately (its sickening)

my sister and i always get a good laugh when my mom starts in about how our grandma made her stayed in her room all bundled up for 3 mos after births....and that's why even tho she's in her late 50s now she doesn't get these "colds" and her joints are still strong compared to other women.

tay ninh is about 2-3 hours from HCM? i would taxi her up to a HCM hospital for sure...if for nothing else there are still lots of smaller hospitals in VN that use the old-style vertical cut for c-section...whereas in a big HCM hospital they'd do the much more preferred modern horizontal cut under the bikini line (and less risky for the mother and for subsequent births).

thank you for the reassurance. It makes me feel better about rescheduling if I have to . Even though the consulate trip is important to us all. But my wife health sure does come first.

Hey man,

I'm glad you have your interview date set. I hope everything goes well so you can make this date man. Like others have said, it's hard to get an interview date and now you want to reschedule it? I'm sure you care about your wife's health and most importantly, your little one. If you want to be together asap and willing to do so, you shouldn't reschedule it. That's my $.02.

Anyway, welcome to Visa Journey. You know who I am and I know who you are. khakhakhaaaaa

Anyway, good luck bro.
